Re locating to St John’s/Jax from the NorthEast

My wife, our young son and Myself are picking up and moving down next spring I’m trying to get some info on what neighborhoods are good family oriented communities. My life revolves around surfing and my family so would like to be as close to one of the more “known” surf spots as possible. Not super interested in a cookie cutter HOA unless my wife overrules me and it’s in our budget, but looking for more of a neighborhood type feel

Visiting later this month looking at a home- master planned communities?

Hi everyone we are visiting to look at homes next month. I am a SAHM. Here in NY kids do not play outside hardly ever and it really varies.

In the masterplanned communities like rivertown, shearwater, silver leaf , etc. are kids out playing often on the playground, etc?

My son really wants friends. He is super social.

Thank you!

Howdy, locals! Quick question for y’all…

I visited St. Augustine this weekend and completely fell in love with the town (so much so that I’m toying with the idea of moving there.)

I’m a Texan who’s been looking for something new and think this might be it.

Maybe I’m wearing rose-colored glasses and daydreaming about an adventure, but I’m curious:

  1. How do you like living in St. Augustine?
  2. What made you want to live there (if you want to share)?
  3. Where’s a good place to look for rentals (other than Zillow)?
  4. Where’s a good place to look for job opportunities/do you know of anyone who’s hiring? (I have a background in tourism/journalism but am open to anything right now. Again, looking for something new.)

Thanks y’all!

Little Margie’s!!!!!

We went there everyday! Breakfast is amazing! She makes the best hollandaise I’ve ever had! We stopped for the crab special—-$20!
Just a great place!
It’s affordable and right across the beach!

Premier League Bar

I will be in St Augustine for the weekend and I'm looking for a bar that shows Premier League games. I've seen some suggestions but nothing really serious.

Has anyone been to South-A-Philly?

I'm looking to take a lady friend downtown and honestly it's been a long time since I've ventured into Old Town...

I figured we'd park in the Garage and walk down St. George and around the fort.

Visit my friend who works at the Torture Museum.

South-a-Philly sounds good and fun but I've never been. I know she likes Sarbez and this seems similar. Also it's at the end of St. George so we'll probably be hungry by the time we get there.

I thought about Mojos BBQ and DJ's Clam Shack but I don't want to sell a kidney to pay for an afternoon out.

And what the hell happened to A1A Aleworks? That was a go-to spot to sit on the balcony and watch the fall of society!

What should I do on my 1 or 2 day trip?

Hey all,

I will be visiting June 1st and am considering whether I should spend 1 or 2 full days in St. Augustine and looking for recommendations for things to do.

I will be staying in a cheap hotel downtown and bringing a bicycle with me to better explore the area.

I really want to see the natural beauty that this old city has to offer such as the spanish moss covered trees, beaches, and parks. If the conditions are good for surfing, I will definitely spend a couple hours in the water.

I'm traveling on a budget so I'd prefer to do things like free walking tours/museums/sightseeing.

The dilemma is whether 1 day is enough or if I should spend extra money for an extra night at the hotel.

Also, on my way out I will be biking up to Jacksonville probably through the Guana Nature Reserve/A1A so if you happen to know any scenic/bike friendly routes I could take that would also be greatly appreciated!

Cry me a river!!!

You people in Nocatee are really crying because traffic was affected a little because of an incredible sporting event that happened yesterday. They talked about it for 2 weeks. The peoppe of St.Johns County have complained about all the bullshit traffic Nocatee has caused on 210 US1 etc..

Use to be able to go to PVO and other great restaurants on Roscoe before Nocatee use to be able to sneak up US1 of you didn't want to deal with 95 going to Jacksonville before Nocatee. Could actually go east and west on 210 from 13 to A1A before Nocatee. Your bitching will cause another great event that brings money into the community to relocate because it took you a little extra time to get to the damn WaWa or Publix.

Looking for a Good Butcher

I am looking for a good butcher in the St. Augustine/Hastings/Palatka area that uses locally sourced beef. When I lived in the Midwest I would buy my beef direct from ranchers and would like to go back to that, but want to try the beef first.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Bridal Shops, but Realistic?

Howdy!

I’m looking for a reasonably priced wedding dress venue. (I know. Slap “bridal” in front of any word and it’s 200% inflated.)

I’m looking for under $3k range.

Is there a space that offers Spanish style or classic sleek silk? I’m not looking for TONS of fabric, or really anything princessy and bedazzled.

I appreciate your help, everyone.

No teaching jobs

Hi everyone,

I’m currently certified to teach Spanish and have several years of experience teaching middle and high school students. My family and I are hoping to relocate to Florida, but I’ve been struggling to find a teaching position so far (I hear there’s a budget crisis)

I’m starting to wonder what other opportunities I could pursue with my certification and background while continuing my job search. Has anyone here successfully transitioned into another role in education or related fields in Florida?

I do have a Florida temporary teaching certificate, and my experience is mainly in Spanish education.
If you relocated to Florida and went through something similar, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience or advice. Thank you!

How to Make Friends in St. Augustine - Late 20s/Early 30s

Good afternoon!

My name is Tyler and I’m a 30 year old male, and I’ve lived here since July of last year and I am making this post to (hopefully) pool together some ideas for how to make friends in St. Augustine

For those that have moved here in this age range, what was the best method for you to make a consistent friends and/or friend group?

I’ve lived in the Tampa Bay area for the last several years and there were innumerable ways to make friends (for me, attending events/hosting events worked the best) - I am concerned the social infrastructure of the area may not be able to hold consistent meetup groups like Tampa can. I’ve flirted with the idea of starting a social group here through instagram/meetup/facebook

Romantic & Quiet Sunset Spots Between St. Augustine and Palatka?

Hey everyone!
I’m looking for recommendations for romantic and quiet spots to watch the sunset between St. Augustine and Palatka — either by the ocean or along the St. Johns River.

I’d love somewhere peaceful, scenic, and not too crowded. Could be a hidden beach access, a pier, riverside park, overlook, dock, or even a nice spot to park and relax for sunset.

Bonus points if it feels cozy/couple-friendly or has a great golden hour vibe.

Thanks in advance!
