Dog-friendly patios?

Dog-friendly patios?

Hi! I’m a Gainesville resident planning to come up for the day to show my senior fospice pup the beach. I was gonna do Matanzas Inlet (on leash of course) early AM, like sunrise-ish before it gets too hot for her.

I was thinking of doing brunch/lunch in town before I drive back - are there any dog-friendly patios the pup could hang out on with me while I eat? It’d just be me and my dog, so I wouldn’t have someone to hold/wait in the car with her while I go indoors.
Or should I just pack a brunch picnic?

Dumped Bully

This guy was dumped in a local apartment complex, left out in 115F heat index temps. Horrible skin, massive tumor on throat, feces caked on his backside + dirt/hair caked in the collar (which clearly hasn’t been removed in months+). def not neutered. I picked him up to check for a chip, none. All the old ladies on FB keep screaming “bait dog!” Because of his scars, but I just see a backyard breeder’s stud whose medical needs got neglected for way too long before getting dumped. He’s way too old to not be neutered.

Currently housing him + planning to go through the motions to do a stray hold. My hope is that I find a rescue (or other means) to fund his medical care while I foster because I certainly can’t afford to take care of all that on my own. If anyone has any suggestions on how I can help this dude (rescues, resources, etc), let me know.

Also any name recs are welcome :) he’s a big goofy happy guy, and he loves to give you his paw for chest scratches.

Update: I’ve created a GoFundMe for his initial vetting (and naming rights!).

Training on Walks

I have a very friendly, gentle foster pup that I’ve been working with for a few weeks now. He’s very good on a leash when it comes to the walking. But I struggle with keeping him from approaching people. I’m always apologetic and most people don’t mind, but I try to be respectful since everyone doesn’t want a dog excitedly running up to them.

The problem is that every time someone makes eye contact with him and approaches him to pet him, it reinforces to him that interactions with strangers are invited and will be rewarded with pets and attention. So despite my efforts, he still wants to approach strangers.

I do my best to distance us from others on walks, and I reward him constantly when someone walks by and he stays focused on me/ignores them. I use the command “focus” and also a sustained sit/stay. Also considering a “do not pet” leash or vest for walks where we’re training.

Any other suggestions?

GNV Birders: what’s your fav bird you’ve seen?

I moved here a few years ago from NE Georgia, and I love all the Florida birds. I’ve gotten way more into the hobby since moving here and added a lot to my life list just observing birds around my job/complex. Personally, limpkins are my favorite out at Payne’s Prairie.

What are some of your favorite birds you’ve seen (or heard!) around town?
And any lesser known cool spots to see some new birds? Doesn’t have to be a trail or anything. Could be a parking lot etc.

Popeye the Foster

I’m fostering this pirate pup that the shelter named Popeye. He’s a perfect gentleman goofball, and honestly he may go from foster to permanent resident if I can swing it. I ordered a propeller hat for him. But like..his head is kinda big right? Big frontal lobe guy here

Melvin’s Summer Cut (by me)

Give it to me straight - did I do Melvin justice? I left his little curly boots on + attempted a lion cut.

Crybaby’s cocktail Summer 25

Last summer (maybe early fall?), Crybaby’s had a cocktail on their menu called “the pool boy” that my friend really loved. I wanna recreate it but can’t remember what was in it/can’t find a menu from summer 25.

Does anyone know? I’ll be eternally grateful.
