Fourth of July-ish anniversary cake 🌹 💙

friend of the family asked me to make their anniversary cake which they are celebrating today! I thought I would use patriotic colors to tie in to today’s festivities 🇺🇸

The cake itself is 6 layers of Sally’s Baking Addiction’s chocolate layer cake recipe with milk chocolate ganache and chocolate pastry cream alternating throughout - covering in vanilla bean white chocolate ganache (that gave me a lot of trouble haha) and vanilla SMBC piping! I did the lettering by doing buttercream transfers and I’m super happy with it as someone who does not have the steadiest hands and has also had trouble with writing on cakes!

My only complaint is I wish I had taken the time to flatten all of the dots instead of leaving them pointed 🤦‍♀️

first trip with the x-t50 + xf23mm lens

I’m a total amateur but I had the best time taking my new fujifilm x-t50 out for a spin on my trip to Maui! I didn’t mess around too much with the settings, just put in the Kodak Portra 800 recipe (except for the fun night coastal shot, that was with a recipe called Zero Hour I found on TikTok) and took a bunch of photos.

Please give me all of your tips and tricks for the camera and settings to try! My biggest struggle was nighttime photos, I did find a recipe called Reggie’s Portra that helped a ton with nighttime photos to keep them from being really orange which was the case when I tried taking them with the normal Kodak Porta 800 recipe.

I’d love to learn more and get better at taking photos, so any advice is welcome!

I found all of these recipes on TikTok/reddit! I didn’t edit the photos in any way aside from a couple of the photos I cropped.
