Weird behavior when playing with certain toys

Our male cat (neutered) has this weird breathing behavior when we play with certain toys, especially wand toys.

It usually doesn't happen while we're actually playing, but right after we stop. When I tell him the game is over, he'll sometimes just stare at me with his mouth open, almost like a dog panting.

What's also strange is that if I pet him when he does this, he stops almost immediately and his breathing goes back to normal.

He's extremely focused when playing, very smart and very vocal. He also gets bored quite easily and needs a lot of stimulation, so I'm wondering if this could have something to do with excitement, overstimulation or frustration when the game suddenly ends.

Other than this, he appears perfectly healthy. He eats normally, uses the litter box normally and behaves normally otherwise. It's also definitely not because he's too hot, as we have air conditioning and the house is kept at a comfortable temperature.

Our breeder hasn't seen this behavior before and doesn't know what could be causing it either.

I've never seen him do this when he's playing or wrestling with his sisters, even though they can get really wild together.

Has anyone seen their cat do something similar? Especially the open-mouth breathing right after stopping a favorite game, which then stops almost immediately when the cat is petted?

Edit: I just noticed that he does the same with his favourite food when I don't give it to him immediately

She gave us a big scare

Looks like Mochi fits right into the family. In my family we always say, "Getting sick is for the weekend."

Saterday she started vomiting. She was still playing, cuddling and acting almost normal, but she couldn't keep any food down. Not even her favorite cat soup. So we rushed her to the emergency vet.

It turned out she had an intestinal blockage and needed emergency surgery right away. Thankfully, the operation went well.

Poor girl was only spayed last week, so she's had a really rough couple of weeks. The cause was a hairball. Mochi doesn't just groom herself, she also loves grooming Pesto and Vespa, so she ends up swallowing a lot of extra fur.

She's back home and she is doing very well. But has trouble with keeping herself calm. She can't play with her brother and sister now and has to stay confined in a room. Poor baby. But she is eating, drinking and has gone to the toilet so that is good news.

Wednesday I have a consult with the vet to prefent this from happening again. Since they are brushed almost every day, and get salmon oil through their food and I put extra water in the wet food they get twice a day. The rest of the day they get good quality grain free kibble.

Drawer not closing all the way

Hi everyone

I have a bit of a smell coming from 1 of our litter robots. I already did a deep clean offcourse. But it seems to be coming from the drawer that's not closing all te way. There is nothing in the way and even without the bag it's not closing all the way. Anyone knows what I can do about it?

Little devils in cute disguise

So the new way of playing is to forcefully remove the kitchen skirting boards. Yes I have reinforced them, and also pit heavy blocks before them. They still get it done.
