Happened across this beat to hell 1981 Les Paul Custom on eBay for a steal and decided to pick it up. Has had a pretty ugly repair when a chunk of the body got broken off. Still plays really good and is maybe the heaviest guitar I've ever owned.

Swapped out the tuners for some locking Schallers because the tuners on it were busted and swapped out the bridge pickup because that wasn't an original, neck pickup is original. None of the other hardware or plastics are original either.

I accidently went to fire up the bike with the battery tender still hooked up and it killed the bike, shut off all the electrics with the ignition still on. Now it's doing what it's doing in the video.

I had all the electrics on once, but as soon as I hit the starter, just went dead again.

I've checked all the fuses, battery connections are good. The battery tender keeps going from saying it's good to bad. Battery is likely the problem, but any one else have any insight before I drop £120 on a lithium battery.

Picked up a Spira Guitars S-407 back in February as base to mod into what I wanted since it's a pretty solid starting point for the price.

Swapped out the bridge for a Hipshot Ibby HM since, only need to drill out the new holes since the baseplate covers up the holes from the old bridge. Changed out the tuners for some Grover locking tuners. The stock ones were serviceable but they had an odd ratio. Finally, swapped out the pickups for an 81-X/60-X set in brushed black chrome.

The pickups finally arrived yesterday from the US so now it's ready to go and its great, best 7-string I've owned.

I'd highly recommend these things. Stock they're serviceable but if you're willing spend some money they easily go toe to toe with much more expensive guitars.
