My Parkinson's Guitar

I had given up playing the guitar (an activity at which I was once quite good) soon after my diagnosis, but have now started playing again, and this recently led me to embark on a project to design and build a classical guitar that might accommodate some of my motor symptoms and make it easier for me to play. I wrote an account of how I went about it and how it turned out, and I have posted a link to the it below:

My Parkinson's Guitar

Hopefully it might encourage somebody to have a go at a similar sort of project themselves, and I would be very interested to know if there are any other guitarists with PD in the community, and how they overcome the difficulties of playing that are inherent in the condition.

I am Yoshimitsu Awazu (Yoshimitsu4432), a Japanese guitarist.

It would be great if you could follow me on Instagram and YouTube via the links in my bio.

Yoshimitsu4432 (Yoshimitsu Awazu)

A Japanese guitarist and artist based in Tokyo and Yokohama. Originally from Hyogo Prefecture.

Fascinated by hard rock lead tones, I began my solo career in 2020 through digital releases to realize my teenage dream of singing through my guitar.

While rooted in hard rock, I draws musical influences from diverse genres including alternative rock, post-rock, electronica, hip-hop, EDM, funk, and ska. Beyond songwriting and guitar performance, I handles other instrumentation, track production, mixing, and more.

Alongside my solo work, I formed an online collaborative band with Milan-based Davide Perico under the name “DY3-thx12-4432” in 2021, primarily active through music streaming.

Their songwriting with Davide extends beyond DY3 to include soundtracks and LO-FI tracks, releasing over 120 songs.

I has participated in numerous bands in the past.

From 1996 to 1999, I was a member of the band “camden-lock,” releasing an album recorded in London with Ralph Jezer, engineer for The Wildhearts.

In 2008, I performed at “Summer Sonic Osaka” as the guitarist for the band “NEON GRAVITY”.

I resumed live activities in 2025.

While continuing regular solo live performances within Japan, I am also active as the guitarist for honeydip's overseas tours, a band I have known for a long time.

Are these good strings? Should I use something different? Teach me your ways O, wise guitar gods.

I have a PRS SE 24 custom guitar and have been playing for about 2.5 years. When it became time for me to swap out my strings, these were my local guitar store had. I knew that switching from 10’s to 9’s meant that the guitars intonation had to be set up so I had the guy at the guitar store do it for me and I’ve been using these strings ever since and I’ve never really thought about using anything else.

Should I keep going with these strings or would you guys recommend something else? It does it even matter?

What do you think?

Who else plays a right-handed guitar here?

The issue isn’t that I cannot use a pick, but my right arm feels awkward just hanging out sometimes since with everything else I’m predominantly left handed. Any tips on how to force it to feel less rigid so I’m not overthinking styling?

NGD - I returned my J45 Special

I loved that J45 but it's just too big for the truck (semi). I couldn't get comfortable with it. I originally wanted a 00 but fell in love with the J45. So I took it back to Jimmy at Southpaw and he let me return it and then purchase this LG-2 Rateliff. I love it, bigly

Advice on first electric guitar.

Greetings southpaws! My wife is buying me an electric guitar for my birthday and I’m torn between two, both are Japanese made. First one is a Fiesta Red bound 60’s Tele with a rosewood neck and the second one is an Olympic White 70’s Thinline with a maple neck. I love the binding and color of the 60 but don’t really like the rosewood. Of the two which would you choose for your first? Why? And which one do you think will be rarer/harder to get in the future? In the case that I might want both eventually. Thanks in advance any advice you guys can give a NFG. Cheers and enjoy your night 🤘🏼

Found this guitar today

Went to my local store and out of the 3 lefty guitars they had I took this Agile 3010 home for $250 for my second guitar. Interestingly every picture I see on the internet, they had 4 tone knobs but mine has 2. Also it appears someone replaced the stock humbuckers or at least removed the covers

NGD Epiphone IBGC 1959 Les Paul Standard

Happy NGD to me! I just received my left-handed Epiphone Inspired by Gibson Custom 1959 Les Paul Standard in deep cherry burst.

The guitar is super resonant, the neck feels great and the finish looks amazing in person. As a lefty, it’s rare to get a Les Paul that doesn’t compromise on specs.

This is easily the best Epiphone I’ve ever played, and honestly it holds its own against several Gibson USA models I’ve tried.

Pick guard help needed!!!

I am new to guitar and just bought a telecaster a few months ago. I really like the look of a metal pick guard but I can never find one that fits my guitar.

I have a LEFT-HANDED telecaster with 5 screw holes as well as 2 smaller ones on either side of the neck single coil pick up.

If anyone knows where I can buy a metal (particularly silver/aluminium) pick guard for that specific guitar, please let me know!

(also it preferably shouldn’t interfere with the tone of the guitar too much)

Birthday SG Tribute Plus

I have already ordered locking tuners and will upgrade the pickups to Seymour Duncans at some point.
