Custom 4" Seat Riser

The standard seat is pretty low for an adult. Also, I wanted MIK convenience (I typically use a MIK -mounted basket so wanted to swap quickly for passengers). I ended up designing and printing a 4" riser block that mounts to a MIK plate. Hopefully the threaded heat stake inserts will hold (I think so).

Also added folding footpages (designed for 8mm bolts but drilled and tapped to accept M10 which is the size the peg hole is designed for). I think the riser + pegs will make for a more comfortable ride.

Next up - a better cafe lock. Dealing with a folding lock for a 1 minute trip into a convenience store is a PITA.

Seeking vintage VW Van for video shoot

We're doing a video shoot and for various reasons would like to use a vintage VW Van/bus/Kombi (e.g. pic below). Something late 60's or into 70's is ideal. Doesn't have to be "showroom" quality and, in fact, a weathered/used/"normal" look is preferred; flexible on color. We need the vehicle for about four hours on Tuesday, August 18th. The shoot involves a man (model we are hiring) driving the vehicle in Golden Gate Canyon State Park. Film crew is based in Boulder. Do anyone know how I might find such a vehicle here in Boulder or nearby? Or do you or a friend have one? Please DM me if so. Thanks!

Why not more traffic circles?

I’m wondering if anyone here in city government, city planning, or otherwise informed knows why there aren’t more roundabouts in Boulder.

I bike or drive down Pine (pictured at 18th) almost everyday and the few roundabouts there are great imho. I drank the KoolAid on roundabouts and traffic circles long ago: Better traffic flow (stopping at a STOP sign at midnight is asinine), gas and brake savings, fewer violent collisions, and effectively zero maintenance once built. Riding down Pine this AM I was reminded of this last item when the lights at Spruce & Broadway were flashing; and of course many traffic lights go out completely during the power shutdowns which are likely to only get more frequent with time.

I lived for a while in Bend, OR - the “Boulder of the West” (although it’s actually very different). Anyway, that town has gone all-in on roundabouts and traffic circles. The entire western half of the city doesn’t have a single light - all roundabouts (or a few Stops). They are even starting to build them at higher speed exchanges (something, say, like Broadway and 36th).

So, why just the couple on Pine, or the few others scattered around? Are those a trial run? Is the city collecting data on those (accidents, etc)? I’m sure the urban planners here can chime in but to me roundabouts are simply a better design, and likely pay for themselves many times over eventually. Curious if any knows the deal.

Bear downtown

Just ambling around the alley between Mapelton and Pine @ 21st. Called non emergency and they said if not aggressive just let him be. He’s enjoying some garbage currently.

2022 Diverge Pro Carbon with Velo Orange fenders

FWIW I installed some Velo Orange fenders on my '22 Diverge. About to take this bike on a solo bike-slacking tour (cc hotels) in the UK and NL and figured these would be good to have. I found a 50/50 dirt/road route from London to Liverpool and I gather the green lanes and tow paths can get pretty mucky when it rains, which is often apparently.

Went with the 55mm smooth 700c fenders. They mounted up well. There's a good 20~25mm of space between the tires and the fenders. I did have to 3D print a mounting bridge someone else had already kindly designed for the seat stays mounting. Then I had to print my own little L bracket to connect that to the fender inself. Lastly, I found I did have to cut out some material from the fender at the curved section of the seat tube (I guess that's already curved in the frame for fender clearance?). Otherwise no issues. Watch some vids on how to install 'cause the instructions are crap. Made my own rubber mud flap extension for the bottom of the front fender. Good times.
