Did people say your baby was very alert or observant?

So many people have commented that my 8 month old is very alert or observant that I’m beginning to wonder what they mean. It will come from strangers at the store, family, acquaintances. This is my first so to me she just seems normal? Is this something people say to all babies? If you had an “alert” baby what do you think this means exactly?

These stairs connect the kitchen at the back of the house to the basement and also lead to the backyard. They are very small and awkward and the back door doesn’t open all the way. There’s nowhere to store shoes and dirt from outside is constantly being tracked into the stairwell. I’m willing to spend some money and have toyed with the idea of adding a glass sliding door to the back wall. I can’t afford a huge renovation right now, even though I would love to redo the whole staircase. Any ideas?

My baby is 7 months old and has been having some really rough days. Not sure if it’s teething or developmental but she will whine and cry all day. I try to keep her distracted with activities and getting outside but there’s only so much we can do. Is there anything that works to calm your fussy baby and kill some time?

I’ve been offering my 7 month old a variety of foods for 2 months now and she hasn’t made much progress with actually consuming food. I offer her some solids, like toast, cucumber, pasta, as well as purées and mashed up foods. She will put things in her mouth sometimes but not really swallow anything. Anything with texture she will gag and spit out.

Is there something I should be doing to help her swallow the food or work on desensitizing her gag reflex? I’m worried that she’s not making progress.
