Alfama Airbnbs look incredible and the price is much better than central hotels. Any feedback on what is better?

I have been going back and forth on this. The Alfama Airbnbs look incredible and the price is much better than central hotels. But I keep reading vague references to it being "different at night." Trying to get specific, honest accounts from solo female travelers who have actually stayed in both areas. What was getting back to your accommodation like after a late dinner or evening out? Would you make the same choice again?

When you're booking a solo trip, what actually drives your decision? For me, my parameters vary with each trip and why I am traveling. Sometimes it is the price and budget, sometimes it is safety, and a lot of the time, I have no idea where I would like to go, so I post in these groups for help 💚

Drop your top 5 in the comments, ranked 1 to 5, with 1 being the most important. If something matters to you that isn't on the list, add it. I want to hear it.

A. Safety of the accommodation itself (locks, lighting, reception, etc.)

B. Safety of the neighborhood or area

C. Price and budget

D. Reviews specifically from solo female travelers

E. Finding a place that actually fits who I am as a traveler, not just what's available

F. Help figuring out WHERE to go (I don't always know my destination yet)

G. Getting there safely, transportation from the airport

H. Things to do nearby

I. Flexible cancellation or booking options

J. Women-owned or female-friendly property

Also, is there a certain thing no booking platform has ever gotten right for you as a solo female traveler? For me, it's taking into consideration that I am a sober, solo female traveler, and I don't care about the alcohol 😂 Let me see those awesome creatures, beautiful beaches, and enjoy my solo time with myself.

I just officially booked a massive trip for myself to Roatan, Honduras, staying at Puerta Azul (pic of the famous blue door below). This trip is incredibly special to me because I am celebrating five years of being sober from alcohol, and I am so excited to cross a new country off my list 🇭🇳

While researching for this trip, it brought up the usual things that always stress me out when I am planning solo travel. Personally, my biggest hurdles are always around hotel vetting. I am not looking for a party hotel at all; I want a quiet, relaxing space. But finding out if a hotel actually fits that vibe, if the specific neighborhood is genuinely safe, and if the overall country dynamics feel secure takes a massive amount of hours and deep-dive research every single time. 👩‍💻

I am really interested to hear from other solo female teavelers. What are your biggest pain points when it comes to booking accommodations solo? Do you find yourself asking these same safety and vibe questions, and what are your go-to strategies for ensuring a place is right for you before you hit buy? 🛋️🛌🛎️

Thanks in advance for any input! Hope everyone has an amazing trip booked in the near future to look forward to 🌍

Tink giving some serious side eye while laying in her bed and judging every single thing I've ever done in my life. I'm thinking a nice bone will change her mind 🤔 I can bribe her to change her mind, right??
