Help! (Solo travelling in Bosnia and have a crush)

Hey ladies,

Some of you may remember I am doing a solo backpacking trip from Pula, Croatia to OlüDeniz, Türkiye right now and at the moment I am in Mostar.

I am great with strangers but when I like someone I am useless and gosh, from the day I got to my hostel, I had a thing for the owners son. He is my age and so bloody hot, all week we have been flirting, the energy building.

Last night we ended up having amazing sex on a rooftop and here I am today so nervous to ask him for round 2 and it's so stupid.

It would be okay for me to say to him when we are alone that if he wants to, I am definitely up for more?

I don't want to be intense or creepy but fuck I want him. It was some of the best sex I have had for a long time, he is the first man I've actually really wanted in a long time.

I've been singing all day from the joy that he wanted me too. It was kinda sprung on me, when I gave him my number a few days ago he said he wasn't into casual stuff but he must like me to break that. But then last night it happened and omg.

That's all I can say. In an hour the hostel bar closes and everyone else will have to go away, I will have a chance to be alone with him again. We have had a few nights being up until 3/4/5am just laughing, drinking and smoking.

I need more lol. Help me.

It's so nice to be able to tell someone too! Being out here alone, I have only been able to be in joy alone.

Celebrating my Birthday Solo in Paris

Hi all! In a few weeks I will be taking my first solo trip ever to celebrate my 40th birthday in Paris. Obviously I have a list of things I want to do (Louvre, catacombs etc.). I am also envisioning myself spending a lot of time just wandering around the city vintage shopping and eating pastries lol

I would love to come up with some ideas to make the trip more "special" to commemorate such an important birthday for me. For example, if I had an unlimited budget I would stay at the Ritz and order breakfast in bed on the morning of my birthday but unfortunately that is not in the cards for me. I did recently learn that I could go to the Ritz for afternoon tea so I might do that instead.

For the day on my actual birthday I was thinking I might visit Versailles since it is something I have always wanted to do and kind of has that "special" feeling attached to it but I am sort of thinking I could come up with something better for the actual day.

I would love to hear any recommendations you ladies might have for me. Thank you!!

Things to do: Amsterdam, Antwerp, Ghent

Hello! I finally booked my solo trip coming up soon mid-June. I'm equal parts anxious and excited.

I'm nervous to book things and realized how late I am (missed Anne Frank museum times entirely), any recs are very much appreciated!

I love history, libraries, book stores, museums, food, cafes kind of vibe. Really worried I'm going to waste time being totally aimless! Also, any cafe + restaurants super appreciated. When I go online, I seem to find only viral stuff that have endless lines.

Also, do you recommend booking day trip travel (actual transit ahead of time)? I'm a total newbie at the transit part and not really sure what to expect. Have heard its easy to just use credit cards on iPhone and scan directly?

  • Amsterdam 4 days
    • thinking of Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum + Our Lord in the Attic house museums
    • would like to do a food tour or any walking tours on my 1st day - not sure how to book?
    • recommend a day trip to Rotterdam or Delft or Leiden maybe on 3rd day?
    • specific canal tour to book?
    • any other day trips or things to do in city?
  • Antwerp 2 days
    • recommend a day trip to Utrecht? especially looking for places to eat.
  • Ghent 3 days
    • recommend a day trip to Bruges? especially looking for places to eat.

ADHD meds into Europe

I’m flying into Bosnia and two Schengen countries in a couple weeks. I have three psychiatric meds I need to bring, one of them for my adhd. Obviously i know adhd meds are narcotics and some of them are banned all together.

have a travel letter confirming my prescriptions, doses and diagnosis’, keeping everything in their original packaging and will declare my Ritalin but for some reason I’m still scared 😭 has anyone done this before?

Anyone soloed Iceland? Tips + costs

I’ve always wanted to go to Iceland, but have been reluctant due to many people talking about how pricey it is! Has anyone got any recommendations for cheap hostels, ways of transport or can recommend any good tour companies?

Thanks :)

Feeling scared in London

I’ve been to London multiple times with family, but this is my first time solo, and I’m having a lot of anxiety, specifically that I’m going to get my stuff stolen.

I feel like it’s preventing me from just going out and just exploring, instead I’m just planning specific activities, going to them, and quickly going back to my hotel until it’s time for the next thing.

I’ve solo traveled before, but this is the biggest city I’ve ever been to solo, any advice? I’m staying in a busy area, and I’ve already been approached by multiple people begging for money.

I’m leaving for Scotland in a couple of days, and I feel like I will have less anxiety there!

Edit: to clarify, I don’t think my stuff will be stolen from the hotel, I mean stolen from my body while I’m out.

First international trip in 8 years to London, UK - need sanity check!

Hi fellow solo travelers!

TLDR; I am traveling internationally for the first time since 2018 from the US to London, UK. I’m going at the end of June/beginning of July for 7 nights.

My last trip I did alllllll the planning, research, read books, watched a million videos, etc. and felt overly prepared. This trip I have done some preparation but I’m feeling very burnt out on life in general so I am starting to panic that maybe I’m forgetting some vital things. I am hoping you all can give me a sanity check and let me know if I’m forgetting anything!

- flights booked: flying in and out of Gatwick. Seems the Gatwick express is the best way to get out of the airport and to central London.

- airbnb booked: staying farther outside the city but it’s so cheap, I am fine traveling ~ hour by tube to the central city. Have done research on the tube and buses and feel confident with google maps I can get anywhere.

- UK ETA visa bought and just checked it’s connected to my passport 🫡

- itinerary: for sure seeing a show at wembley one night, and doing a Shakespeare play at Shakespeare’s globe one afternoon. I don’t have much else *planned*, just going to see where the days take me. I have like, 75 things on my list of things I could do lol, and I know I can’t see/do it all!

- packing: plan on packing rain jacket and umbrella to prepare for weather, comfy shoes, etc. I have plug converters, portable chargers, toiletries, daily bag, etc.

- paying: I have multiple tap credit cards to pay for food, tube, bus, etc. I have seen a few people saying maybe an app to pay would be better because of conversion rates pounds to dollars. Any thoughts there? Should I have any cash?

- phone: I plan on adding an international plan to my phone for the month so I can freely use it.

- safety: I know pickpocketing is common over there, so I am aware of safety and where to keep my phone, wallet, etc.

Anything else I’m forgetting that is vital?? Any other tips??

Excited and nervous and soooo ready for a fun time!!

When you're booking a solo trip, what actually drives your decision? For me, my parameters vary with each trip and why I am traveling. Sometimes it is the price and budget, sometimes it is safety, and a lot of the time, I have no idea where I would like to go, so I post in these groups for help 💚

Drop your top 5 in the comments, ranked 1 to 5, with 1 being the most important. If something matters to you that isn't on the list, add it. I want to hear it.

A. Safety of the accommodation itself (locks, lighting, reception, etc.)

B. Safety of the neighborhood or area

C. Price and budget

D. Reviews specifically from solo female travelers

E. Finding a place that actually fits who I am as a traveler, not just what's available

F. Help figuring out WHERE to go (I don't always know my destination yet)

G. Getting there safely, transportation from the airport

H. Things to do nearby

I. Flexible cancellation or booking options

J. Women-owned or female-friendly property

Also, is there a certain thing no booking platform has ever gotten right for you as a solo female traveler? For me, it's taking into consideration that I am a sober, solo female traveler, and I don't care about the alcohol 😂 Let me see those awesome creatures, beautiful beaches, and enjoy my solo time with myself.

Solo travel - Latin America

Hi all,

I'm a 27y old french girl and after 5years of working I'm finallt taking a sabbatical year to do what I always dreamt of: travel. Yayy!
I'm planning to go to Latin America to first take spanish lessons, and then travel around, and I'm currently hesitating a lot on where to go.

I heard Guatemala is safe and has good spanish school, but I will leave this September and it will apparently be the rainy season. Also Colombia was recommanded but I'm not sure how it is as a solo women.

Do you have any recommandations/advices on where to go as a solo woman ? I'm a bit concerned about safety, and I would love to be next to the sea, but also to meet new people.

Thank you !

What was your best/worst hostel experience?

I just came back from a month long trip in Italy and am kinda missing the hostel life, the 2 different Ostello Bello(female only dorm) I stayed in I made friends and had so much fun every night unwinding/hanging out/doing the hostel activities with them.

I had so-so experiences too in other hostels(CX Naples/Anda Venice (both female only)) where my dorm mates mostly kept to themselves and so did I really-being an introvert, but the good hostel experience had me coming out of my shell and I realised I can be quite sociable too with the right crowd.

Also had bad experiences in mixed dorm which greatly stressed and tired me out.

I’m now thinking of planning another trip but am hoping I’d be able to recreate that experience in a different country at another hostel which is just as sociable.

9 days to kill in the US

Hi everyone, I (29F, european) was supposed to reunite and spend 10 days with my first bf this summer. He is american and the plan was to go to his hometown. Our plans have been canceled, I will not be visiting him we will not meet and I am left with a round trip to the US. I did not pay for flex tickets and I don’t want to waste the money. Also I absolutely love the US so I am happy to solo travel there. I’ll be landing in NYC but I already know the city very well, I want to explore some place else.

The question is what to do?

I was thinking about taking a cross country amtrak train ride? Has anyone ever done that here? Money is limited so I would only take a coach ticket, not a roomette.

Also thinking about renting a car and just drive around? I am not a good driver and would likely break the rental car.

I have been thinking about wwoofing but I doubt they’ll take anyone for a week during summer where the activity is so high ? I figured they would only hire people who could stay for +1 month.

I have never solo travelled so I am a bit worried and am looking for an option that will be safe, cheap and allow me to enjoy the US.

What would you girls do if you had 9 days to kill in the US?

Any advice welcomed, I am so lost and scared and chaotic 🥲

Spending extra and planning in advance for female dorms

Hi all, I'm someone who likes to budget travel-hostels, public transport, layovers, backpack all fine. what i wont compromise is staying in a female only dorm, for so many reasons. 1-safety of course, 2-cleanliness, 3-comfort, ability to walk around without a bra, or in a towel. This means though that I often have to pay more for female dorms over mixed or if there's none at all private rooms. Anyone else the same? Sometimes I think it's not worth it but I couldn't cope in the same room with men. Also that means booking accom months in advance if theres limited options (eg-right now booking Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and China for June-Sep), therefore less flexibility with itinerary and trip. I envy solo male travellers greatly with the freedoms they have with travel everyday.

WhereAreYouBro — share where you are, in real time, on a real map.

Hi

I built a small web app for travelers who are tired of long captions, scattered stories and group chats nobody reads.

Why I built it

Friends and family keep asking "where are you now?"

Existing apps are noisy, ad-driven, or locked behind social feeds

I wanted one clean link that always shows my current spot and the trip so far

What it does

One personal page at /u/yourname — your live travel postcard

Drop a stop with city, country, mood, a photo and a short voice note

Auto-built timeline + map route of every place you've been

A single Share button that works everywhere (WhatsApp, IG bio, email)

Multilingual UI (EN / IT / ES)

Mobile-first, no app to install, no account needed to view

Who it's for

Backpackers and long-trip travelers

Digital nomads who want a public "I'm here" page

Anyone who'd rather send one link than 20 stories

Try it

Use the app → https://brother-trails-whisper.lovable.app

See a real trip (mine) → https://brother-trails-whisper.lovable.app/u/nicolinobagamundu

Feedback welcome — it's a solo project and every comment helps, thanks

2 month solo trip to Italy?

I was planning on doing 2 months in Italy around May 2027 around my 24th birthday. I was going stay in Pistoia, Tuscany for a months and then a smaller beach town in Sicily for a months (possible southern Italy but I’ve heard alot about it being a little more unsafe) I’m looking for quiet. I want to basically eat, ride my bike and read in nice spots. I want a small town in the south or Sicily? I don’t drive so most of my transport will be public and I don’t really want to spend loads on taxi/uber with being there for while.

Best destinations for first-time solo traveler in South/East Asia?

Hi! I'm a young woman and I've never traveled alone, but I'd be really interested in doing a solo trip somewhere in South or East Asia. I've only travelec with friends and family in Europe (where I'm also from), so traveling in Asia is not something I'm familiar with yet. So that's why I'm asking here, what would be good destinations for a first-time traveler? I'm open to any country or destinations in there, but I thought l'd ask here for tips :) I'm looking for a country that isn't insanely expensive and is somehow safe for women who are alone. So please recommend me destinations!

Only a few more days until my trip to Panama!!

I don’t really have anybody else to share this with that will be positive towards it, but I am soooooo excited for this trip to Panama City, Panama. I’ve spent the last few years trying to get personal things in my life together so I haven’t been able to travel internationally. Well this summer I decided to change that pattern and celebrate my birthday in a big way so I’m off to Panama in a few days all by myself. I will be doing excursions mostly so I can be around other people and not feel alone. I just wanted to share this in a space where people get it and if you have any advice for me regarding going to Panama City feel free to share!

solo resort ideas

hello! i'm looking for ideas for a last minute solo trip in july, preferably a resort. anywhere from 6-14 days. i'd be flying from ontario, canada and probably have a budget of about $4k, but would be willing to adjust for the right place.

i've never travelled alone and i just want to RELAX! I have looked into wellness retreats, as I'm mainly doing this for a break for my body and mind as i'm incredibly burnt out. i'm not super into yoga or meditation or anything, so i'm not sure how much i'd enjoy a wellness retreat, but i'd definitely try the classes.

all inclusive would be ideal, but alcohol being included is not needed. i want somewhere warm and not too far. would love to just get some sun and swim, but it would be a bonus if there were some activities included. right now i'm looking at costa rica, but i'm so stuck!

Please give me recs and ideas!!! TIA!!!

Some info:

I love live performances, art, animals, snorkelling, hiking and nature
I do not like super adventurous activities like zip lining, scuba diving or rafting
I'm in my late twenties.
I'd prefer not to go to the US
I'd consider a solo group trip from a place like contiki or gadventures, but I know that wouldn't be a relaxing trip.

What’s been the craziest (in a good or bad way) thing thats happened to you while traveling?

The worst for me was getting robbed in Lima. But the guy was on drugs and stumbling and some guys on the street came up and pushed him away and we got our stuff back.

The funniest/nastiest was in Thailand when I went on a tour that took people from hotels where we were staying to an ancient city site like 4 hours away by bus. There were no bathrooms and the bus didn’t stop along the way. I was sitting next to this Eastern European girl in her early twenties and she kinda kept squirming and then at like the third hour she shit herself and then at first tried to act like nothing happened although I immediately realized something was wrong. Then she turned to me to save her so I had to go lie to the bus driver to pretend that I was sick and about to throw up so that she could get off the bus and hide and change.

Seeking recommendations EU

Hello! I’m hoping to take my first solo trip in July but am overwhelmed trying to decide where I’d feel safe. Does anyone have a recommendations? I’d also be interested in hearing pros or cons for Airbnb vs hotel. I’m thinking hotel as I’d like a pool and this would be easier to find but Airbnb as I’m not keen on eating out alone! Thankful for any advice or tips!
