Somewhere That's Green

Looking to dine in an outdoor space with lots of greenery. Plants, trees, whatever. Shady. I want to read a book and maybe have a cocktail and have some good food for dinner, at like 8pm. Where/how can I achieve this? TYIA!

Mexico City

¡Hola! I am traveling to Mexico City in September and looking for recommendations on the best/safest neighborhoods to stay for cheap. I would ideally like to keep costs under $100/night for a hotel.

Background: I am a very experienced solo traveler and have been to 20+ countries (traveling solo roughly 30-40% of the time). I am US American but speak intermediate/conversational Spanish.

I enjoy practicing my Spanish language skills with my coworkers and my Mexican colleague sort of gasped when I said I was going to Mexico City solo and told me it's very dangerous.

I know it's a massive city, but large, urban areas are where and how I prefer to travel and I generally feely pretty safe in major cities.

I am going to attend a swing dance festival, but I will also probably be vising art/history museums, theaters, gardens, etc.

Let me know your recommendations for places to stay, things to do, and any one or two day trips outside of the city you think are worth checking out! I don't plan on renting a car, but am comfortable on foot or using public transit. Thank you in advance!

Best/Favorite Use of a Beatles Song in a Film?

Had my playlist on shuffle today and Two of Us came up in rotation. I was trying to recall where I'd heard it recently and remembered it was featured in Project Hail Mary which I saw twice in theaters. Both times I started crying immediately when the opening notes kicked in because of how the song factored into the narrative and what it meant for the characters. And the scene also has Ryan Gosling name all of the little space bots he sends to Earth John, Paul, George and Ringo 🥹

This got me thinking... what, in your opinion, is the best use of a Beatles song in film and why? Is the best also your favorite?

Beatles films like Help! and A Hard Day's Night don't count. Musical adaptations like Across the Universe or Yesterday do count, but you're on thin ice.

Sound off, and also let's all find a new movie we can appreciate!

Pickled mocktails?

My friend just found out she's pregnant and is sad to miss out on pickle margaritas at Pickles games. I'm wondering if there are any pickle-forward mocktails or alcohol free pickle drinks around town (that aren't straight brine)? Thanks!

Does this match anyone else's experience? What did/would you do?

I am 32. My period has been an issue for me since I was roughly 15. I'd have very heavy, painful periods where I'd skip school and/or extracurricular activities. I remember it being pretty brutal.

I started birth control at 18 and did a lot of trial and error. When I first started taking it, I had my period for 3 weeks straight. I was miserable.

I was on some kind of birth control pill for 12+ years. During that time, if I missed my pill by even ~10 minutes, I would reliably get my period the next day, even if I had just gotten it the week before. I brought this to the attention of multiple doctors and they kind of shrugged and said my body must be really sensitive to hormones. I stayed frustrated and miserable.

I stopped taking BC mainly because of a health insurance situation I was too overwhelmed to sort out and have been OFF the pill for about a year.

During the year I have been off the pill, my natural cycle has proven to be irregular. I'll get my preiod regularly for about 3 mos and then every so often I'll randomly get a SECOND period maybe 5 to 10 days after the first one. It's always a full period - five to seven days of bleeding, starting with heavier days and gradually tapering off. It makes me think that all of the times I was shrugging off my "sensitivty" to birth conrol pills, my body was actually forcing another period on itself regardless of hormone use.

I started a period on May 31st. This was a normal, regular period that I was expecting. It ended approx. June 5th. Then I got a second period on June 10th. It is now June 19th and I am still experiencing that second period, only instead of getting lighter and tapering off, it's still pretty heavy. I thought (hoped?) it was over, but this morning I woke up and it was very heavy with quarter-sized clots. The clots themselves weren't overly concerning, if it were day 2 of a normal period I wouldn't bat an eye, but considering that I have now been bleeding 15 out of 19 days this month with no apparent end in sight, I am becoming concerned.

I called my doctor this morning to see if I could come in last minute and she said the earliest I could come in would be July 7th for an appointment with a nurse-midwife.

I sobbed when I got off the phone - I feel miserable and legit crazy at this point. Luckily there hasn't really been any cramping or pain, just a constant flow that's interfering with my ability to enjoy my life. I feel like this has been a constant problem for me all of my adult life and I am just so sick and tired of dealing with it.

Does anyone else have a similar experience? What did or would you do in my position? Thank you in advance.

Lucas Bravo’s Vegan Values Make a Difference For Emily in Paris

Any Emily in Paris fans in the house? It's a very silly show, but I had no idea that the main love interest is vegan irl!

His character is a French chef so there's a lot of traditional French cooking with animal derived ingredients, but I think it's cool that he's working behind the scenes to promote plant-forward cooking! There was a whole episode revolving around how they can make leeks chic lol
