anyone who has flown from zaventum recently: immigration lines

Hi,

I am non-EU and a Belgian resident, but not a Belgian citizen.

I'm flying internationally from Brussels in early July, with a departure at 9:00 AM. The earliest train from Antwerp would get me to the airport at around 5:30 AM. Technically, that's more than three hours before departure, but I've been hearing some horror stories about the check-in, security, and immigration lines.

I was thinking of getting Fast Track for security. With that, am I likely to make it to my flight on time? The other option is to take the train the night before (airport at 11.50pm) or catch a Flibco bus, but I'm not sure how reliable those buses are.

Can anyone who has flown recently let me know how bad the lines are right now?

Hostelworld customer service?

Hey guys, i booked a hostel through hostelworld but then had to cancel it due to a change in dates. I carefully chose the option that fully refunded me the deposit if i cancelled before july 1st, which i obviously did as this was 3+ weeks ago.

I emailed customer service on june 27th after waiting more than the maximum 10 days of wait (i waited 20) they promise. First I got an automated email confirming they received my request, and then I got what was genuinely just a copy-paste of the booking and cancellation terms and conditions.

in my app under cancelled tripsit clearly states free cancellation before July 1st and I cancelled on June 7th.

Is there any way to contact a live representative???? other than email? Has anyone else had this happen?

Need help in college decisions

Hey everyone. I'm 18, an EU resident (not citizen), and I'm feeling completely lost about what I should study.

I always loved English, especially literature and writing, and my dream has always been to live and work in an English-speaking country (UK, Australia, New Zealand, US). In highschool in the eu i changed to psychology because everyone said it was more practical than english.

I then took a gap year for personal reasons. Now I'm set to start a Psychology bachelor's in the Netherlands this September, but I'm second-guessing it. My mum said she'd rather I take another gap year than spend four years studying something that id end up hating.

The biggest thing making me question psychology is that I've been reading that, if you study it in English in the Netherlands, you pretty much need fluent Dutch to become a psychologist. Without that the job options seem pretty scarce.

It feels like I’ve been searching every day for a month for a course I can go into that will give me some sort of career flexibility in the future, to no avail.

im also not gifted in stem, only a love for biology that pushed me to pursue psychology. I don't have any interest in computer science, AI, or data science, and I never studied programming in school.

I've also looked into remote careers because the idea of working online while travelling really appeals to me. But most of the careers I find (from personal anecdotes on reddit) seem to be in:

  • Finance (math-heavy)
  • Software/AI/data science
  • Sales
  • Graphic design/freelancing

I'm wondering if there are career paths I'm completely overlooking.

I'd love to work in something English oriented, like journalism, publishing, creative writing, or content writing, but those don't seem like realistic career paths in the Netherlands or much of Europe (incase i dont manage to relocate). I've also been considering things like digital marketing, fashion marketing, product design, or UX, but idk how transferable or employable they are internationally.

I'd really appreciate ANY advice

Cash/money in Thailand

Hey everyone!

I'm (18f) going to Thailand for a month solo and staying in hostels, so I won't have a safe. What's the best way to carry my money?

I have a couple of bank debit cards, plus Wise and Revolut, but the ATM fees seem kinds crazy. Would it be reasonable to bring most of my money in euros and exchange it as I go, or is carrying that much cash on my person too risky?

I did this in Sri Lanka without any problems, but idk if it's a good idea in Thailand.

Thanks! trying to be as prepared as possible for my first solo trip.

EDIT: thanks everyone for the replies, ive got my answer!

travel insurance for thailand

Hey guys, Im off to thailand for a month soon and was wondering what travel insurance i should take out. I want it to cover any accidents i might have, especially for the grab motorbike rides, (i'm not planning on riding one myself as i don't have a license and i know insurance doesn't cover it) and in the case i end up in the hospital (god forbid)

I've seen a post on here recommending Europ Assistance but they have REALLY bad reviews on trustpilot.

I have a KBC debit card, is there insurance any good? I don't have any credit cards but i have the revolut and wise cards, free subscriptions for both.

How do you rewind film manually

Hi guys, I have never used a film camera before but i want one for a trip im going on. I've been looking on vinted, and i found a Konica Z-Up 130E which works perfectly, is film tested, but the only problem is that the film doesn't rewind, you have to do it manually.

Can that be done easily? And is it something that can be repaired at a repair shop?

For reference, they're selling it for 10 euros

1 week itinerary

Hey guys, my friend and I are doing a last minute trip to spain in August and would love some help with our itinerary. I want to split it between Seville, Barcelona, aand a coastal town since we’ve heard the beaches outside barcelona are nicer. Is that too ambitious for 7 nights and should we cut something out? Also, we’d love recommendations for good coastal towns that are budget-friendly.

We’re both under 20 and mainly interested in architecture, culture, good food, local bars, and of course some time at the beach.

Question about proof of accomodation- Thailand e-visa

Hi! I’m going on my first solo trip soon and I’m a bit confused about the Thailand e-visa application.

They’re asking for accommodation details in Thailand (name, address, and number of days staying there). Obviously, I’m planning to stay in hostels and travel around the country, so I won’t have everything booked in advance (I was planning on booking places as I go)

What should I put for this section? Should I just book a hostel for the first few nights in Bangkok after arrival? I’m just a bit unsure because my visa application says I’ll be in Thailand for 30+ days, but my accommodation would only cover a couple of nights at one place. Would that be a problem?
