Why is IND airport so boring, when its one of the best raited airports?

I hear a lot about how great indianapolis international airport is super nice and quick to get through. I live in the indy area and I can easily say that that is true. It takes maximum 30 - 45 minutes from parking lot to gate on a good day.

But it's soo boring. You can't fly overseas without stopping at JFK or SFO. The only airlines that normally fly there are delta, united, American, southwest, Frontier, and formerly Spirit. And if your interested on what airplane model you fly on, it really only the A320 family, 737 family, and CRJs or similar. You can't even fly on a 757 200 or LITERALLY any widebody... why though?

I'm going to SFO in September and booked a flight with neat models, united 757-300 and 777-200. But i have to go from IND TO ORD on some scrappy CRJ or something like that. THEN the 757 from ORD TO SFO. And for the way back, 777 from SFO TO IAH. Then another tiny plane from IAH to IND.

I dont understand why they do this. I see cargo 747s quite often. And cargo 757 and 767s all the time. So they have the runway capacity but don't feel using it for passengers I guess... :(

Recent Airport Delays

Hello! I think something is amok and I wanted to discuss it with the community.

Two weeks ago, I was traveling out of Boston Logan on JetBlue, the flight got canceled with no explanation. Weirder still, they offered to rebook us at the earliest 5 days later. Having flown for more than 20 years, I have never seen such a disaster at the airport. Almost every flight leaving Logan at the time was delayed/canceled, and it really didn't feel normal; no one was given an explanation for what was happening. Some airport attendants with JetBlue said there were air traffic control issues and maybe weather issues. We did have some bad weather several hours later, but something still doesn't feel right!

Two weeks later, we flew back home to Boston, our JetBlue flight was 3+ hours delayed, again, no information was shared about why there were delays (also no bad weather this time at all). We've had friends travel recently who have had similar experiences, and it seems to be affecting the whole country (or at least east of the Mississippi).

This could simply be wrong place wrong time... or could something more sinister be afoot?

Flying to Athens but need to book a flight to Naxos

Hey people,

Mid September, I'm flying to Athens from London. Arriving at 11am. We are staying in Naxos however so I need to book a flight to Naxos. Will the flights to Naxos be in the same airport? Just wondering how much time I should give myself between landing and flying again.

Thanks in advance.

Do you ever build immunity working at an airport? 2nd time i got very sick and in bed with no energy in a 3 month span.

Does anyone ever build immunity? I am posting this as i lay here with coughing, severe chest pain, a probably high fever, and I can't get out of bed. I also want to say that I do blame the passengers at the airport. People don't have any manners. They cough, sneeze with like 25 gallons of nasty spit from their mouths and mocos from their nose, and at times I have had passengers sneeze nearly or on me. I sometimes even can see the layers of spit and snot in their clothes. And at times I am on the train and I can't move because it's so packed. So I have to suffer.

My coworkers never get sick. They never have to take sick days off. How does your body build immunity? I am realizing how airports are just as nasty places as schools and classrooms.

I probably have the flu or COVID. If I had one, I probably have the other.

Symptoms started after eating at Panda Express, so I wonder if the kitchen staff also sneeze on food. And it's frustrating because I am supposed to travel tomorrow in nearly a year. And this has to happen.

CDG Airport Question

I have a 14 hour overnight layover at CDG in October. My first flight lands at CDG at 20:25 in Terminal 2E and my next flight departs the next day at 10:10 in Terminal 2E. I’m hoping to book a hotel room at the airport to sleep. Are there options where I won’t have to go through security again? Or is everything landside so regardless I would have to “exit” the airport and then go through security again in the morning? Any tips or ideas are welcome!

Dallas connecting flight

Hi everyone, i have an connecting flight in dallas from frankfurt germany to lubbock. I would like to know if 3h of layover is okay to process everything i mean through immigration getting my checkin luggage and check in it again for my domestic flight to lubbock? This is my first time visiting america, and I am not aware that i really need to get my luggage and check it in again. So I am so curious if 3h is enough for everything or is it tight? Thanks for your answer

2 very short layovers- do I panic?

okay so one of my best friends moved to Florida about a year ago, and she has been SO kind as to fly me out to see her out of her own pocket😭 she went ahead and booked the flights for me based on the dates/times I told her worked for me and I am genuinely so grateful to have a friend who would do that for me.

HOWEVER, upon reading the itineraries, i’ve grown a bit (extremely) anxious. my flight out there is from STL, Southwest Airlines scheduled to land in Orlando (MCO) at 8:15 pm. then, I am sat to get on a connecting flight to Fort Lauderdale that departs at 8:50… 35 minutes. is this doable? I am a little less worried about this flight because it’s a couple hours from where my friend lives, but not so catastrophically far away that i’d be stranded entirely.

HOWEVER, AGAIN, my flight home (American Airlines) departs from Fort Lauderdale and lands in CHARLOTTE (CLT) at 5:20, only for my connecting flight to depart at 5:58… 38 MINUTES. I am a teacher who plans to go to school the following day, and I cannot be stranded in Charlotte. It’s over 12 hours from where I live. there’s one more flight that night from CLT to STL, but that’s it. and that’s assuming I can even make it onto the very next flight out should I miss my connection.

long story long, I just want to know if I should be panicking, or if this is doable. feel free to share all your thoughts, experiences, and horror stories. it’s not too late to change the flights, though it’ll cost extra. but if it’s necessary for smooth traveling and peace of mind, i’ll do it.

thanks for the help!!

I wanted a way to spot planes from my desk

Hey all! I've always loved planes and design equally and I've spent years looking for a decent way to watch aircraft from my desk. I've found that existing apps are cluttered, covered in ads, and never something I actually want to leave open.

I wanted something simple and beautiful that used Apple Maps. It's taken a while to work out how to render 3D objects onto Apple Maps, and I've hand-built a handful of aircraft models to fit the Apple Maps style.

It's still a work in progress, but in the spirit of getting things out into the world I figured I'd share it. It's built around airports rather than tracking everything in the air at once.

If you want to follow along I've put a waitlist up at terminal.flights. You can pick an airport, which helps me decide which ones to release first.

Cheers

I noticed on a bunch of airports that their ground equipment is very old and worn out. I know some airlines are already getting new equipment, but still

TSA and confirm ID?

I’m 18 and I’ve never had a state ID or driver’s license before. I need to fly soon and I’m trying to figure out whether I’m actually going to be able to get through TSA using ConfirmID.
My biggest concern is that because I’ve never had an ID, I’m worried I might not have enough information in whatever databases ConfirmID uses to verify me. I basically have no history of using a government-issued photo ID, so I’m scared the verification is just going to fail because there’s not enough information on me.
For anyone who has actually used ConfirmID at the airport, especially if you didnt have one or never have had one, what was your experience
Did TSA accept it without a problem?
If ConfirmID failed, what happened afterward?

I’m mostly trying to figure out how realistic my chances are. I don’t want to spend money on a plane ticket if there’s a significant chance I’m going to get turned away at the airport.

I know nobody can guarantee what TSA will do, but I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have actually been in this situation. I’m especially interested in experiences from people who never had an ID, rather than people who just forgot/lost theirs.

Dilemma a Malpensa
