How to overcome the fear of speaking on camera
Whenever I see this asked it’s always the same answer ‘practice!’ And while that’s 100% true it’s never an easy option. I’ve suffered with this for years so to help myself and others I’ve made an app called Take One that’s free to download on the App Store that should help with any online speaking issues you might have.
My goal was to help with knowing what to say and how to say it. Here are most of the features available now and I’m working to add even more soon-
Interview - put yourself on the spot with questions that you don’t see until the cameras rolling (just like a real interview)
Live Audience - a simulated audience in a fake social media livestream that you can engage with, argue with or choose to ignore
Viral Take - daily refreshed topics that are trending for you to practice talking about them with helpful prompts
Today’s Take - everyone gets the same daily prompt to practice or post about when you finally feel ready
Guided Take - The app walks you through anything you might want to practice talking about step by step
Practice Paths - work on the areas you feel the most help
Your Take - one area of focus to work on or just talk about whatever you want
Feedback on your audio - yeah it’s AI coaching, I was hesitant on using AI but I wanted to give users something to work on to avoid reinforcing bad habits
Privacy is the main priority, there’s no link to socials so no one sees your videos but you. You have the option to save them on your phone if you want to rewatch or post them somewhere, otherwise they just get deleted.
The coaching is just constructive feedback on what you said, it’s never on how you look, or how you said it, just the contents of the audio.
Most of the features are free to use, but you can try everything anyway with a 3 day free trial and if you choose to subscribe you can cancel anytime you want!
I built this because I think ‘just practise’ is correct but also incomplete advice. People need somewhere safe and useful to do that practise.
I’d genuinely appreciate honest feedback or questions , especially from anyone who avoids making videos, speaking during online meetings or recording themselves because they feel uncomfortable on camera.
