APSC 160

What were your thoughts on this class and any advice?

Some people told me it was easy regardless of past experience, but I was a bit surprised at the number of fails on UBC finder. Also the prof for half the course (Grecu) has a bad rep.

To everyone who was in a design team first year

I am really interested in the specific tasks you were assigned (also which team it was).

I know CAD is involved, but what else did you do? Was there anything that was a big jump from what you did in high school, and how was the leadership/culture?

How many hours/week did you spend, and was it throughout both semesters?

If you don't want to publicly say the name you could always DM me.

When is your course selection time?

Please comment your faculty + registration date/time. You may also share your entrance average.

Is first year course selection also based on GPA? Bc that wouldn't be standardized across high schools...

Phys 159 advice?

Is there any way to prep? I don't feel confident in my circuitry skills. Of the 3 hours, how much is instruction and how much is writing?

Will I regret taking an 8am

There's this English class I want to take (with Susan Blake, lmk if I will regret this) and the only way for it to fit with my other classes is if I take the 8am. Will be living on campus. Also I don't have many other options for English classes because if I don't take it at 8am it will be late afternoon, which interferes with other activities.

I took 8ams in high school but I know it won't be the same. Also, I am strict about sleep because I need more than the avg person, which will mean sleeping before 11. Will I miss out on much? Don't care much about partying but it is fun to hang out with friends at night sometimes. Ig that's what weekends are for.

Lmk your experiences + anything about the prof, thanks!

Oakridge vs South Hill Library info?

Hey all, I am planning to study with some friends at the library but have never been to either of these libraries. Is it easy to find a seat on a weekday? Not a private desk or anything, I am ok with sitting at a group table.

I looked it up and south hill seems quite small, unsure about oakridge. Thanks.

Proximity friendships

I feel like my friends as I are only friends because we're around each other. But we have no shared interests or anything. I really want to go camping but there just isn't anyone to go with. Friends are either not interested at all, or will say they are but put 0 effort into planning. I know I'll have to plan the entire thing and beg people to pay me back (and they won't) so at this point I just didn't even bother planning.

I really wish to have friends with shared hobbies and who I can have meaningful conversations with. I'm surrounded by people but still feel so alone.

Is this a reasonable price increase?

Currently tutoring 2 siblings at 40/hr. I want to raise that to 60, which I think is reasonable due to my service and the place I live, but it is a 50% increase.

How did parents take it when you told them about a price increase, and how much was the increase?

WRDS 150 Advice??

Should I pick a topic that I am interested in? Or go off of the prof? Idk how trustworthy rate my prof is, it seems that ppl who get good grades like the teacher...

Also, do you find that you are allowed to express your viewpoints in your assignments/writing? I wish I was kidding, but in high school, we had to agree with our teacher's ideologies if we wanted to get at least a B.

Thoughts on Tom Andrews and Dennis Foung? I am kind of interested in the topics they are teaching.

What's are some oddly specific things you should discuss before marriage?

Of course, alongside the major things like kids, family, religion, etc.

Are there any important things to discuss that no one really talks about?

Is Stat 200 credit useful at all?

There are no 2nd year elective requirements so I'm wondering if the AP Stats credit could be used for anything....

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if I could gain some insight about first year courses? I know it varies by prof for sure, but what's the general structure?

Do you take your own notes in each class, complete online quizzes, then have in person mid terms and finals?

If you have any specific advice for any course that'd also be appreciated. Thanks!
