what a 75 avg got me in 2012 …(Neuro/psych)

U of Toronto St George - Neuroscience rejected ❌
U of Toronto Scarborough - Neuroscience accepted ✅
U of Toronto Mississauga - Psychology accepted ✅
McGill - psychology rejected ❌
U of Waterloo - Neuroscience accepted ✅
U of Alberta - gen science rejected ❌ (got early acceptance and then eventually got rejected)
UBC - gen science rejected ❌
Simon Fraser U - gen science rejected ❌
Langara College - accepted ✅

My interim was around 80 avg. Did tons of community involvement/ volunteering. Work experience placement in grade 12 was lab assistant and student peer mentor for students with learning disabilities. Also submitted supplementary documents to UofT and Waterloo.

I decided to study at UofT Scarborough and graduated in 2017 with double major in Neuroscience and Psychology and minor in Biology.

Looking back I don’t think the grades got me in but the crazy amount of community work that I did and maybe the supplementary documents.

Not sure how it is now but it seeing posts that you’d need over 90-95+ avg really surprised me 😳

Suspicious UBC email

Did anyone else get this email from UBC. I was accepted to Eng and this email just seems off. I’ve never heard of this email address and I can’t understand why they would be asking for midterm grades when my semester ends in like two weeks. Plus it doesn’t have to be official?? Similar emails from UBC have not included my student number and I feel like it may be an attempt to prove legitimacy. Also seems odd that they would mistake the date (2025 not 2026). And it’s weird that they would ask to be sent an email rather being uploaded directly to the UBC student portal like every other document or transcript I’ve uploaded. Just being weary especially after the canvas data breach.

sfu conditional

so i recently got my conditonal offer for sfu health science bs and i was just wondering what are my chances of my offer getting revoked. I only have pre calc 12 left to finish which im currently doing through sails and my interm grade was a 73 before but now its 70 and i still need to do the final but i fear my grade might drop to like a 63-65. Do you guys think it would get revoked? Also should I accept my kpu offer in case my offer gets revoked?

Offer Revoked

I was admitted for sciences at UBC and now I’m worried my offer might get revoked because of my social studies mark this year.

Bio 20: 91
Bio 30: 91
Chem 20: 93
Chem 30: 94
Physics 20: 90
Physics 30: 90
English 20: 87
English 30: 88 (currently)
Social 20: 90
Social 30: 79 (currently)
Math 30: 91
Math 31: 89 (currently)

These are my current marks, and I’m wondering what the chances are of my offer getting revoked. Last year, my average was 94.3 and this year it’s 92.5.
(I’m an Alberta student, so I added the 4% boost to my grade.)

For The People Asking me How I Appealed to UBC Vancouver.

Hello! This is the OP of the post with the title “DON’T GIVE UP ON UBCV.” that was posted a few days ago : )

I have gotten many DMs from people asking how I appealed, what was it like, what’s my advice for future rejected/revoked offer applicants, and etc! I cannot reply to them all. So this is just a post highlighting my experience. If you messaged me, please read this! Disclaimer… don’t take my experience to heart, go out there appealing, and expecting that you’ll 100% get in, because UBC appeals historically have an 8% of being successful.

In order to submit an appeal, you have to have mitigating circumstances (or just one if you think it’s major enough) and appeal to UBC. These mitigations have to be either a medical emergency, family member passing, or whatever you think the admissions committee should take into consideration as they reconsider your application. This appeal is not an email you write. You have to submit your appeal by UBC Appeals (it’s a website and should come up if you just look up UBC appeals). For these circumstances, you will need to provide proof that they happened. The more proof you have, the better. This can either be a medical note from your doctor or a support letter from a therapist. I only did a medical note, as my therapists supervisor did not allow her to write one for me. You also have to prove that those circumstances will no longer affect your studies and that you’re now better physically or mentally. Fyi, you do not need to provide proof for a family members death. Or that’s what I read about somewhere, so I did not do that. I had about 3-4 mitigating circumstances that affected my grade 11 grades, so personally, my reasons were pretty major. You cannot appeal if you think you just deserved to get in or if you know someone who had a similar academic standing got in instead and you didn’t.

The fee to submit the appeal forms is $77 CAD, I am unsure of the price for international students. You have 2 weeks to appeal after you get your rejection notice from UBC. By the way, you will need to write your own personal letter with the application explaining your mitigations yourself. I would recommend not making like 3 pages long, that’s not professional per se. Mine was 1, but I had to leave out many key details. I just got straight to the point and explained some of my background (like my toxic family dynamic since my doctor also wrote about that in her medical note as she was referring to my psychiatry intake form 😴). I was actually very burnt out when I on wrote it and didn’t proofread it; I’m surprised I still got an offer. When I read it now, it feels like reading a 10 year old trying to explain how their week was lol. But don’t do what I did and write your personal letter formally 😬, I just got lucky and I don’t know how.

Honestly, appealing was pretty intimidating. When I got that rejection, I was obviously very upset, as I felt like I failed 12 year old me who always wanted to move out and attend UBC. I kept going back and forth about if I should appeal or not. It was actually my doctor who told me to appeal, as she is very supportive of me leaving where I currently reside. So, I appealed a day before the deadline. Honestly, the best thing I could’ve done. The waiting was detrimental, as they got back to me a month after appealing. So everyday, I was stressing about what they’d say. If they rejected me, it would’ve been a waste of money, and $77 is a lot to me even though I’m an employed 17 year old lol. 🥲

Though if you ever have the money to appeal and think your circumstances deserve to be heard, go for it! Good luck if you guys ever choose to appeal in the future because of a rejection/offer revoke! Don’t ever lose hope for your dream school, but also don’t depend on that one singular dream. There are so many other opportunities out there waiting for you, and you have yet to explore even a half of them. 👀

Math Graduation Requirements

Ok so currently im taking pre-calc 12 in person at my school and doing well so far, the thing is I didnt take pre-calc 11 before. I started doing pre-calc 11 online but I'm wondering if I still need it to be finished to graduate because the BC website says math 11 or 12 credit. I'm also already committed to UBC so this is really my only concern

Guide of how to transfer into engineering from science or any other faculty

I thought I would make this post as last year I was very confused on how to do this and was told by any engineering students that it is not possible and I must go to Langara. So here is a break down of how to transfer. PLEASE note that you can actually transfer from any faculty to ubc engineering as you take the same classes as thise transferring from science.

As for classes you MUST take at least 27 credits to get second year standing. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE LESS THAN 27 since first year engineering is very difficult to get into due to grade inflation.

To get 27 credits you must take these classes. I am going to drop some of my marks below so you guys can get an idea of what being a competitive candidate or #1 candidate to get a seat in Engineering

Math 100: 96
Math 101: 96
Math 111:85
Chem 121: 95
Chem 123: 90
Phys 117/118/119: 85
Apsc 160: 85 (I would highly recommend taking Phys 170 instead of Apsc 160 as engineering involves more of that instead)
Fren 101: 97 (humanities elective this is designed to boost your gpa so pick something with historical a high average).
Wrds 150: 85 (pick a good prof!!!)

So overall I had 30 credits and around a 90 average. However competitive average has been high 70s to low 80s. This is a good benchmark to get accepted.

As for acceptances, if your first semester grades in physics chemistry and calculus are good you will get accepted early. So aim for at least mid 80s in those classes. PLEASE NOTE you must have a 70% average in all math chemistry and physics to get accepted. If you don’t achieve that it is an immediate rejection.

You will first get accepted into the faculty. Then around March 15 the program placement form opens up where you will compete against other engineering students for your specialization.

PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO DM ME. I understand how stressful of a process this can be as no one told me it was possible until I did it. It’s completely doable as long as you put in the work. The reason why many ppl get rejected from first year entry is simply due to grade inflation since everyone has high 90s in highschool but get humbled meaning their grades were very inflated which is the case for most. But if you put in the work it’s completely doable.

UBC pathway

I would like to preface this by saying, very obviously, I am not going to base the decision solely relying on what a bunch of other teenagers on reddit are saying.

I got into UBC General BSC and I have been debating whether to 1. Attempt to get into CS or 2. Transfer from BSC to Eng. I know that both are extremely hard to do (maybe not that bad for CS anymore as the average has been falling but it's still really hard). I am equally interested in both, I just want a job (which CS might not give but oh well) and was just asking what y'all think about this.

The difficulty of eng itself after I get in is not a factor just yet.

Edit: I didn't get into eng got rejected 🥀 and please don't say "If you didn't get into eng in the first place that reflects how you won't transfer in either" or something I don't want to hear that even if it's prolly true

Ubc revoke

I got into ubcv arts last february and I was wondering if my chem and math grades are going to affect my admission offer, IM SO STRESSED. Senioritis actually hit so hard and I basically just stopped going to class….

My initial chem grade was 68 and precalc was 70
Now chem sits at a 57 and precalc at 60. 😭😭
tbf some marks are not in so I know it is not as bad, I am assuming chem would be about 60-63 and precalc would be 65-67 at best once some tests and assignments are marked. But assuming that it’s not and it still sits at a 57 and 60 will be offer be revoked?

Also anybody wondering how I got into ubc with these marks I had a bomb personal profile in my opinion and I’m a big humanities/ social sciences person.

my initial average was 84.5% and now it sits at a 83.7%

Did anyone get off the waitlist for kin?

I got waitlisted on April 22 for kin (first choice). My final avg is 94%. My second choice was Science, but I got rejected. Is it over for me?

Has anyone gotten off the waitlist for kin? If yes, what was your avg?

transferring to a uni with a mid pp

Honestly, my personal profile isn’t really the greatest. I’ve done lots of things but I feel like they don’t really have much impact. When transferring from a college to a university like SFU or UBC, does the personal profile still weigh just as much as in high school? Or is it more focused on grades. Im asking specifically for business.

Abt online schools…

I’m currently in g11 and planning to apply to UBC next year. But my mental health status just has gotten worse and worse since last year (I have moderate depression and anxiety) and pills didn’t make anything better, sometimes the physical symptoms can distract me during classes and assessments. I was very sad cuz I was an academically strong student but I found focusing in classes and studying harder and harder in term2. (School counselor didn’t help much)
So I signed up A LOT of self paced online courses after discussion with my parents. Will I get penalized when applying, I heard ppl say online schools are just very easy and colleges hate them.
Is there any chance I can get into UBC science/Kin with 92 avg…

Idk what can help me now

UBCV Arts vs UBCO Science if my goal is to transfer to UBCV Science?

Hi everyone, I’m trying to decide between UBC Vancouver Arts and UBC Okanagan General Science.

My original goal was UBC Vancouver Science, but I didn’t get directly accepted. Either way, I would likely try to transfer into UBCV Science later.

UBCV Arts keeps me on the Vancouver campus, but I’d be switching faculties. UBCO Science keeps me in Science, but I’d have to transfer campuses.

For people who have done this or know about the process, which path do you think is more realistic/easier for transferring into UBCV Science? I’d really appreciate honest advice about GPA, course planning, transfer difficulty, and whether one route is safer than the other.
