What did this RB woodpecker pull out of this tree?

Taken this morning in NJ. I was expecting a small worm or something and was surprised to see a decent sized meal. Curious what it looks like to you sharp-eyed redditors 😊 still pics in comments. Thanks!

Mockingbird evicts RTH

Happened to catch this shot when the hawk finally got annoyed enough to find another tree top. Amazes me how brave the little mockingbirds are constantly jumping onto the hawk to boop it off ☺️ NJ, USA

Queen Victoria the beloved resident RTH in me + u/honesthamster5914‘s neighborhood was spotted by u/honesthamster5914 being chased by a crow! Even letting out that famous hawk noise. We were able to see QV break free and hang at her favorite tree top for a few. Going to be a great day! 🫶🏼

Would love some insight as to what’s going on here. A crow was also recorded repeatedly diving by / antagonizing the RTH earlier this week, as posted by u/honesthamster5914 (check out the vid!) and today I happened to catch the crow bopping Queen Victoria RTH right on her head 😅 Has anyone observed similar behavior?? Do you think the crow has a nest here to protect or is just messing around?

(Context: northern NJ, Recorded late evening as the top of a Norway spruce, this hawk/its family are here several times a week, I imagine they love me and appreciate how much above user and I admire them xx)

Fondly named Queen Victoria. She and her family use these 2 Norway Spruce trees at the bottom of a large park in Northern NJ about 10 miles west of Manhattan to hunt and hang!

Hey everyone! I'm u/cashmaman, the founding moderator of r/HawksoftheWorld.

I’m just a gal who is fascinated these birds of prey 🫶🏼 I noticed a gorgeous red-tailed hawk in my neighborhood and started looking for her everyday. My interest grew! After accidentally joining a Hawks sub actually dedicated to a pro sports team, I created this community dedicated to the beauty, intensity, and sheer "cool factor" of our favorite raptors ☺️

📸 What We’re Looking For

We want to see your original photography! While we love all birds of prey, this sub is specifically for the Buteos, Accipiters, and other magnificent hawks of the world.

• Action Shots: Diving, hunting, or mid-flight maneuvers.

• Interesting facts that may relate to your photos! (Please cite source)

• Perched Portraits: Those icy stares and detailed plumage.

• The "What is this?" Photos: Need help with an ID? Post it! (Just remember to include your general location)

📜 A Few Ground Rules

To keep this sub a high-quality experience for everyone, please keep the following in mind:

  1. Original Content Only: Please only post photos that you took yourself

and state your general location.

  1. Respect the Wildlife: Never bait hawks or disturb nesting sites for a "better shot." Ethical photography is the only kind we celebrate here.
  2. Identify the Species: If you know it, put the species name in the title! If not, use the "ID Help Needed" flair.
  3. No Dead Birds: Let's keep the focus on living, breathing raptors in their natural habitat.

Please keep conversations respectful & have a wonderful day! ✌🏼
