Help with bacon flavor?
Hi everyone! I'm in the process of trying to eliminate animal products from my diet as much as possible and I've been pretty successful so far, but one thing I've been having difficulty finding a replacement for is bacon bits. I used to use them in a lot of recipes purely for flavor so I don't miss the meat aspect of it, but making the dishes without them has been less than satisfying.
Examples: Greens boiled in veggie broth (used to add bacon bits for some smoky oomph), or coq au vin (I now make it with extra mushrooms instead of chicken but the bacon added a lot of flavor), or stewed potatoes in gravy.
Is there a mix of spices I can add to dishes to get the flavor?
