I've been making a list of things I have learned while modding iPods over the last year. These are mainly things I feel are important to consider when starting out, and a lot of tips I haven't seen mentioned in many guides. My list so far has 18 things on it, and I made a video of the first 5:

Are any nuggets of info you wish you had known when you started out with modding?

Hi all, this ipod doesn't seem to hold much charge, and after about 30 mins of charging it gets pretty warm and just displays the Apple logo constantly.

The owner was sold it by a modder some time ago who told her it was a 5.5. Obviously the case is a 6/7, but it's possible the insides are a 5.5 I guess? Anyway, I took it apart (it's not actually difficult if you do the research beforehand) and this is what it looks like. The battery is stuck to the back of the screen, and it has a storage type I haven't used before (for 5th gens I usually use SD cards and the cheap adapters from AliExpress).

I wonder if just the battery needs replacing? I'm also still not sure what generation the ipod is, does anyone know how to check just by looking at the board?

I picked up the 4-film set pretty cheap from Vinted a while back. It was sealed, so I was confident it wasn't fake or anything. Somehow, the Matrix disc is "invalid" when I try and play it on my PS5, yet all the other discs work fine.

For context, I have a British PS5, and the Matrix set is Italian. Is there anything I can do here, other than look for a cheap Matrix disc replacement?

UPDATE

As others suggested it, I cleaned the disc with a microfiber cloth, and boom, the disc now works!

I know it sounds basic, but it never crossed my mind that a brand new disc that looked pristine would need cleaning in order to work, but here we are!

This is my second iPod Mini mod tutorial; I wanted to improve on the first one, which didn't show the restore loop, or switching the clickwheel to a new shell. I also mixed portrait and landscape video on the first one, which didn't help with seeing the detail in the screen recording part.

I've been modding iPods (mostly 5th gens and Minis) for about a year now, and wanted to make a video about modding a Mini with a cheapo red CF-SD adapter. The reason for this is that I hadn't seen a tutorial that takes you through the whole process, from installing the hardware to flashing the firmware. I had only read about the trick with rebuilding the MBR, so I thought it might be useful to others to actually see it happening in real time. I will probably also make a tutorial soon on installing Rockbox and configuring some of the themes and settings.

I'd be interested to get feedback on the video from the community here. Was there anything I missed out, or would you like to see a particular iPod tutorial in future?

iPod Mini Flash Mod Tutorial

I got into modding in a big way last year and have yet to stop. Only the Shuffle, Nano and one of the minis aren't modded. Some of the shells are custom painted by me, a couple of the mini cases are from Resale Firm, most of the others are from AliExpress.

Pic 2 shows some of the interesting backs of the custom ones. The Wu-Pod is for me, the One Direction one is a gift for my sister in law 😄

All the modded ones have new batteries and use SD cards, most have Rockbox.

Now I need to start selling some of them as this many ipods is ridiculous 😅
