Why are so many crochet businesses in India underpricing and killing the market?
I run a small crochet business in India and I’m genuinely exhausted.
The problem: There are now 100 sellers for every 10 buyers. Instagram, Etsy, Facebook groups, local exhibitions - everyone is selling crochet.
And the pricing???
I’m seeing:
- Handmade crochet tops: ₹499 - ₹799
- Amigurumi plushies: ₹250 - ₹400
- Crochet bags: ₹600 - ₹900
- Blankets: ₹1500 - ₹2500
Let’s do the math as an Indian business owner:
Good cotton/milk cotton yarn: ₹250-₹400 per 100g. A top takes 2-3 skeins = ₹600-₹1000 just in yarn
Time: 6-10 hours minimum. Even at ₹200/hr that’s ₹1200-₹2000 in labor
Packaging, shipping, platform fees, GST if you’re registered
My cost price itself comes to ₹1800-₹2500 for a top
So how are people selling for ₹699 with "free shipping"?
Answer: 90% of these sellers are hobbyists, students, or housewives who don’t count their time as money. "Arre yarn ka hi toh kharcha hai, baaki toh shauk se banaya". Or they’re using ₹99 acrylic yarn from local

my wip is stuck
if you know me then you also know that i was working on a custom mesh pullover and now I completely ran out of material . I'm now left with a vest and 40% of one sleeve and 60% of another sleeve. you can easily ask me why i didn't finish one single sleeve, the thing was i was left with 2 balls of yarn after the vest and i thought i can make one sleeve from each but yeah here we are. now i have ordered the materials and they'll take forever to arrive 😔

did i underprice my own product by getting paid 3k for this bouquet
the size of the bouquet was over 2 feet, it took me 3-4 hours to crochet the flowers and another 1 to assemble them, and then another half day to wrap it and everything. i highkey feel like i underpriced it, what do you guys think ?

my account was banned so had to use gpay to message a customer
the reddit account which i was using was banned yesterday and there was this customer to whom i had to send his tracking id and can't message him from other account cuz his dms are off so i had to literally use gpay to send him a message telling his parcel was out for delivery which luckily he saw and replied to
