'Web access to your account is turning off soon'

Logging into my account on the web today I was greeted with this message:

>Web access to your account is turning off soon > >Don’t worry though, the mobile app has everything you need to manage your card.

I am not very happy with that news because I don't have a smartphone (I don't want one), and even if I did it would still be more convenient to access my account at home on a PC with a large screen.

I needed to speak to customer services about another issue anyway so when I called them I mentioned the web service closure message and the agent said there is no timescale for it and it might not actually happen because there have been a lot of customers complaining, which doesn't surprise me.

I don't like the way Capital One just assumes everyone has a smartphone. Even when you phone them, you have to endure a long message where you're told you don't really need to phone and could do everything on the 'app' instead. No, I can't - that's why I'm phoning! I can't even send a secure mssage via the web because despite the help section saying you can, you can't any more - the secure message option has been removed from where it used to be. It now only exists on the mobile app.

So I haven't had paper statements for years but this is probably going to prompt me to get them reinstated, which will cost Capital One money and waste paper which I don't want to do, but I'll have no way to read statements otherwise. (And who wants to read them on a tiny mobile phone screen?)

So does anyone have any concrete info on when this will take place? (I'm expecting people just to attack me for not having a smartphone but maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.)

Cancelling mobile sim upgrade under 14-day cooling off period?

I took out a sim upgrade online from PAYG to a contract and afterwards changed my mind. I tried to do this yesterday to no avail and ended up opening a complaint. I spent an hour on the web chat today with an agent to cancel it, yes an hour because it took that long arguing with them and declining buying other products or other solutions before he finally relented. He said he had raised a request and it would be done within 24-48 hours and I would be reverted to my old service. He then asked if he could close the complaint and I said if the cancellation is happening and I get reverted then yes that's fine, and shortly after I got a text saying it is closed.

I'm wondering now if this was a ruse to get me to close the complaint, or if it is actually going to be done? I would have expected to have received a text or email confirmation of the order cancellation or something, but I haven't. Is that normal? Also does 24-48 hours mean from now, or does it mean working days ie. end of Tuesday?

Just wondering if I should relax and wait or phone them instead.
