Introducing a younger rooster to my flock of 4 hens
First time having chickens, and Im trying to bring a new rooster into my flock. My rooster was taken by a predator, so I wanted to add a new rooster to the flock. Before I got my new rooster, my 4 hens established a new pecking order and one of my hens took over. I didnt realize adding a younger rooster (3 months younger) would be an issue and I took some bad advice and tried to stick him in the coop overnight hoping the integration would go peacefully. My hens attacked him and drew blood so we separated him. Hes in a kennel next to the run so and have kept him that way for a couple months now because of the bullying. He is crowing now and trying to mate with the girls, but he is still scared of them. I have a chicken tractor and the run is too small to put the kennel inside, the idea was to free range them most of the time. I have attempted to put him in the run with the girls but they still attack him. Do I need to give them more time or what can I do differently? This has been a long process. the rooster is about 5 months old and the hens are 8 months old.
