What are ways you practice focus pulling?

Besides setting up a camera and having a friend walk back and forth, what are some other ways I can practice on a moving target? I just started an internship at a rental house and want to practice since I'll have acces to a camera.

Any tips on how to keep focus on a handheld action scene with lots of unpredictable movement?

Made a recent post asking how I can improve on keeping focus when a subject is walking towards or away from camera and got some grest advice! But what about a handheld shot with lots of shakiness and unpredictable movement? I tend to try and constantly move focus with actors but I end up getting lost and just frantically move focus trying to find it again, and the shakiness of the shot makes it very difficult to make out if I am sharp or not.

Any tips on getting better at this specific focus pull?

Been working as an AC for less than a year and I'm definitely getting better at keeping focus over time, but staying on a subject moving from far to close is still a challenge for me and I often lose focus for a moment around the time that I have to start pulling focus faster due to being at a shorter distance, any advice on how I can improve?

I currently intern at a rental house and plan to practice focus pulling during any down time I have as well!

Bizarre technical issue with Marvel Rivals

Not sure if this is the correct place to find a solution to this issue, but whenever Marvel Rivals is running, my desktop turns completely grey and I can't use any other program while the game is open, does anyone know what the cause of this could be? I made sure to update my drivers of course and the issue remains.

System info if Necessary:
Windows 11
AMD Ryzen 5 2600
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050
16 GB installed RAM

Any recs for which hand unit to upgrade to after a nucleus?

I can't wait to move on from the nucleus once I can afford it, but what should I upgrade to? Is a Teradek ctrl unit worth the price or would it be smarter to wait until I can afford a higher end kit like an ARRI?

What do you do to prepare for a shoot?

So far when I get brought onto a new project, I introduce myself with the dp/cam op if we haven't worked together beforehand, and I of course read the script and look through a list of every piece of gear in camera department before the prep day in case theres anything I am unfamiliar with. What else should I be doing to prep?

Should a 1st AC be looking at sides on set?

I've seen boom operators looking over sides before a take, I assume this is so they know to predict when to position boom to properly capture audio, should the 1st AC do this as well to predict focus? Or is it more common to prepare during a camera rehearsal?

What kind of tool would I would need to tighten the nut on the Hollyland pyro transmission?

That small nut that fastens the antenna connector down is a bit loose, and I worry it will impact latency

Has anyone had issues with R/S on the Nucleus M-II? (RTWP)

Yesterday on set, I am able to roll just fine, but when I have to cut, sometimes the REC button on my hand unit is unresponsive until I press the button multiple times, the RS cable is new and seems to be in good condition, and I've never had this issue before.

Understanding the 1/3 2/3 rule

Wanting to make sure I'm understanding this concept correctly, if DOF is 4' does that mean that focus is 1'4" infront of the subject and 2'8" behind them? And because of this it would be better to change my focus distance about 1'4" closer than where the subject actually is so 2/3 of the focus is infront of the subject? Or is it smarter to have the subject in the exact middle or focus? Of course it depends on the scene, but I am just asking as a general rule of thumb.

Proper filter order in a matte box

New to 2nd AC, what exactly should the proper order of filters in a matte box be? Lets say I have a pola, ND, BPM, and glimmer glass all needing to be used at once, in what order should they be placed? I've been told conflicting answers on different sets and some clarification would be very helpful

Any recommendations for a decent rangefinder thats cheaper than a focusbug cine RT?

I recently worked as cam utility for an AC that was using a focus bug and she said its extremely helpful, does anyone know of a different rangefinder thats cheaper but does the job? Or would it be smarter to just save up for the focusbug?

How long did it take to get proficient at pulling focus?

I've been getting into AC'ing for a little under a year now and I like it a lot! I've been trying to 1st AC on a handful of sets here and there while in film school and have still yet to get proficient at pulling focus, some shots I do a good job at keeping focus, others I've screwed up on, especially takes with lots of movement. How long did it take some of you to get really good at it?

I'm getting to a point where I have some kind of camera department position (1st AC, 2nd AC, cam utility) on a set on a semi weekly basis which I'm extremely thankful for! Rather than once a month if I'm lucky
