Laminated lens card info

Hello guys. I'm starting a project next month and I was thinking of printing and laminating a card with all the lenses in the set and some camera info for me and the dp to look at in a pinch. Do you have some templates or some recs on what would be essential to include, other than lens, close focus and minimum T stop?

Lets Talk about set shoes?

hey everyone,

I surveyed my colleagues and put together a list of Shoes that people are rocking on set , i also reviewed tons of online reviews that specifically talk about using these shoes on set.

The main critiques are wearing & longevity, comfort, stability and of course Points for style.

i currently have the brooks as number one because after all the shopping around i do belive these felt the best on my feet, however i dont know if ill be keeping them as i dont love the silhouette.

did i miss anything ? what are you guys wearing out there?

Note: This was a list of my opinion , ive worn a few of these shoes but not all lol.

Organization question

Hello everyone, as we all know in the AC world most of us accumulate a lot of tools and accessories that we either add to our daily kits or it ends up going into storage in a workshop. I’m curious to see photos of what yall use to organize from the little pieces of gear to large pieces of gear.

Looking to find some nice versatile drawer organizers, something possibly portable or stackable. I have a Milwaukee Packout system currently.

Thoughts on the DJI Focus Pro Hand Unit?

It seems good in size compared to nucleus but is still affordable. Any drawbacks you noticed? How does it compare to Teradek, Preston, ARRI?

u/The1stBrain — 1 day ago

Nucleus Nano ii is the Wheel Required RTWP.

Is the wheel needed or does the system work with just a motor and handle? Im looking to automate zoom only on a shoulder rig and want to put zoom control in my handle. The basic kit comes with wheel and motor and bigger kits come with two motors wheel and handle. I didnt know what I needed to just make the zoom motor function on a handle for my tilta lightweight shoulder mount.

Follow up question will be wiring the handle for record button control to Sony A7V if im already using both usbc on the A7V for monitor control (ninja Tx Go) and powering the camera.

Upgrading to Arri handset

Hi everyone, I’m anticipating to jump to an Arri LCS in the near future.

Currently I have budget for the WCU 4 as I want to get my foot on the ladder of Arri technology and the end goal being the Hi5.

Below is a breakdown of how I want to control FIZ with my budget limitations

A few options I’m weighing up at the moment, not a seasoned focus puller here so no doubt Im making mistakes as I go. But let me know your thoughts!

WCU-4> Ria 1( white radio module) >3x clm 4 motors

WCU-4> ERM-2400 LCS> 3x clm 4 motors

WCU-4>AMC-1> 3x clm 4 motors

Side note: For camera control I will invest into Ethernet bridging technology. Chasing licenses forever is very frustrating and costly

Short eyebrow for LMB

Worked on a project a while ago with an AC who had their own eyebrow for an LMB made of 3d printed parts that was about half or a third of the size of the standard eyebrow. I’m interested in picking one up but I don’t remember the name of the product/ who designed it and they also said that the person who originally made them has stopped production so I was wondering if anyone knows of a similar product or has one of those original pieces they’d be willing to sell. Thanks!

Outdoor wheels Matthews Monitor Stand II

Is there an outdoor wheel conversion for the Matthews Monitor Stand II? It's a great stand for when I'm indoors but on the exterior pavements it vibrates and shakes on every bump and undulation like there's an earthquake

How long did it take to get proficient at pulling focus?

I've been getting into AC'ing for a little under a year now and I like it a lot! I've been trying to 1st AC on a handful of sets here and there while in film school and have still yet to get proficient at pulling focus, some shots I do a good job at keeping focus, others I've screwed up on, especially takes with lots of movement. How long did it take some of you to get really good at it?

I'm getting to a point where I have some kind of camera department position (1st AC, 2nd AC, cam utility) on a set on a semi weekly basis which I'm extremely thankful for! Rather than once a month if I'm lucky

Affordable but reliable SDI cables

Where are people buying their SDI cables from that won’t break the bank? Are any AliExpress sellers decent? I’d love a mix of braided 3G, 6G and 12Gs of varying lengths for on camera and also a 10m all with Canare connectors.

Thanks in advance 🙌🏼

Should I leave film school early to work full-time as a camera assistant, or finish my degree first?

Hey everyone, I’m 24, based in Florida, and looking for advice from seasoned ACs.

I’m at a Full Sail University with tuition and rent covered until mid-2027. While Full Sail is an average film school, much of the skills and set etiquette I feel I’m already learning on real productions. I’m much further along than most classmates; many aren’t even working at all or taking school seriously. I’ve already been working on many non-union professional commercial and indie sets as a 2nd AC, Camera PA, Grip, and I’ve done PA work a bunch as well.

Now I’m at a crossroads. Option 1: Switch to a certificate undergrad, stop spending the remaining $70k of my parents’ money, and invest $10–15k in a 1AC kit, like a Teradek transmitter setup, CTRL.5, a smallHD monitor, and other essentials, for example. (Just some basic suggestions I’ve heard of and used, then jump fully into small commercial/indie gigs, aiming for a bigger market later down the road.) I fully understand I won’t start as a 1AC day one and will need to climb the ladder again if I move to bigger market states like NY or CA, and I’d have to try to join the 600.

Option 2: Stick with the fully covered bachelor’s, keep working between classes, build a smaller starter kit, rent gear as needed, and decide after graduation. I’ve made great connections and have a-lot set hours, but I wonder if owning gear now makes me more appealing and if I’m wasting my time with a useless degree. I fully understand nobody cares about degrees in this industry and it’s fully based off networking, commitment, attitude, etc.

If these options don’t sound realistic, I’d love more input and feedback on what to do to get myself into a good position and make the most of my time and family’s money. I recognize I’m extremely privileged to have tuition and rent covered, so I want to be smart with this. I’m extremely hardworking regardless and am determined to make this my career like the many of you professionals who do this every day. I don’t want to seem like I’m looking for an easy cut around either; that’s not the case. I want to earn my keep and just be as smart and efficient as possible.

Thanks

Bizarre Error A35

I was on set with an Alexa 35 recently and we encountered a very strange error where every time we pushed the record button (by triggering remotely AND by pushing the on-camera button) the ISO would suddenly jump to 1250 from 800 or jump from 800 to 1250. What is happening??

Camera Tags

What are the ABCD camera tag sets that ACs typically use? Have seen the same reoccurring tags for a while now but have never taken the time to ask specifically where they come from.

Custom LBUS Cables

I recently purchased a Hi-5 and already own most of the ARRI cables I need, but I want some fun custom LBUS/CAM cables for my motors. I’ve heard mixed reviews about aftermarket LBUS cables, so I’ve been a bit hesitant to go that route. Are there any trusted custom cable companies that make LBUS that have withstood the test of time with minor issues?

Thanks for your help!

Trying to find screws

As the title states I'm attempting to find some screws. I reached out to teradek and all I got back was a manual that didn't have the information. I'm looking to find screws to mount the npf battery plate to a teradek bolt pro 2000rx or to the bolt sidekick gen one. And I know I could use the 1/4"-20 but I'm mounting to a stand or clamp and don't want to have to remember every time to hold it when it pops off as I remove the stand. My best judgement has been either an M2 or m2.5 bolt at about 15mm length but I have no idea about if the pitch (I think it's called) would affect it much. Does anyone have the details?
