VRadical Studio now supports DJI Osmo 360 VR180 - 2

We’re continuing to make progress on VR180 modding!

And this time, with the DJI Osmo 360 2!

Yes, this camera is currently only available in a few Asian countries which made my search for original files quite a challenge. But in the end, I found something even better than I had hoped for.

On August 16, a user on Baidu uploaded an original OSV file recorded with a DJI Osmo 360 2… modded for VR180.

So, while this still needs further confirmation (once the camera will be available worldwide), it reinforces what I suspected when I first saw the Osmo 2 leaks: all the existing VR180 mods for the DJI Osmo 1 should also work with the DJI Osmo 2!

And that’s great news, because these mods are quick to print, very cheap, easy to install yourself, and don’t require any extension cables. My design is also available for free on my Thingiverse profile, with no offset between the lenses.

The other good news is that the changes to the metadata structure in the DJI Osmo 2 are minimal. A few indexes have moved here and there, but that’s about it, and the file can be processed normally.

As a result, updating VRadical Studio was extremely quick, and it can now work with footage from the DJI Osmo 360 2. Next step is waiting for DJI to release this camera all around the world.

I’m taking the liberty of redistributing the processed file because the original is freely and publicly available on Baidu pan.baidu.com/s/1QHc_rYqDUUxcEJJaKAzAdg?pwd=d7f2 at no cost and without any stated restriction on redistribution.

However, I will not upload it to YouTube VR or DeoVR, as the absence of a redistribution restriction does not automatically give me the right to use the clip on a video-hosting platform.

Here is an example clip:

First stabilized footage ever shot on X6 VR180

For testing purposes only, this is the first footage from an Insta360 X6 modded for VR180 and stabilized with VRadical Studio: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIWGP3WufVg

This prototype was made by u/zippytiff and is only a temporary version, as the required ribbon cables to mount both lenses in the same orientation are still in transit at this time.

Is that a problem? Well, it can be while shooting lights or fast moves (like a step walk), but definitely not for testing the entire shooting pipeline end to end, from recording to exporting and publishing a video.

It’s also perfectly usable for testing automatic parallax calibration, color grading, audio processing, and much more. You'll obviously notice the picture wobbling from time to time: just remember the lenses are not attached and positioned at 90º one from the other making the picture correction becoming mad.

This kind of prototype allows us to develop and improve these mods and software much faster, so a big thank to zippy to help me improving VRadical!

Hi, I'm VRadical!

This is not exactly the kind of announcement I had planned, but Google had other ideas and temporarily blocked part of my software just as I was moving the application into production.

As a result, the release will be delayed — thanks, Google — and will now have to wait several days. Family comes first during the summer.

But today, I'm introducing VRadical! VRadical is a suite of software products dedicated to VR180. It brings together everything I felt was missing for a simple, consumer-friendly VR workflow.

You guessed it: seven icons to unveil, representing seven radically different products. I will introduce them progressively, starting with the first one: VRadical Studio!

VRadical Studio is my take on standard amateur VR. Yes, amateur. This application is designed for everyday users, much like Insta360 Studio, DJI Studio, or QooCam Studio.

It features a clean interface and logical organization, while most technical tasks are automated. The goal is to keep the workflow to point, shoot, export, and publish in just a few clicks, without requiring any particular technical knowledge.

Currently supported cameras

  • DJI Osmo, including every known mod whose creators were willing to collaborate by providing sample clips: u/Zippytiff, u/ManuelSawaG, u/Slight_Web8776, and u/ChelouteVR
  • GoPro Max 2, including the Metal Light and Metal Pro mods by u/Slight_Web8776
  • Insta360 One r/RS 1-Inch: horizontal mod by u/ChelouteVR and vertical mods by Sylvain Menard and u/ChelouteVR
  • Insta360 EVO
  • Insta360 X4 mod by u/ChelouteVR
  • Insta360 X5 mod by u/ChelouteVR
  • Kandao QooCam 3 Ultra: I have never had access to a variable-IPD Q3U, so only compatibility with the original geometry is guaranteed
  • Lenovo Mirage
  • CALF Gen 1 / Realia ViewPT
  • Canon R5 Mark II

Features available for every supported camera

  • Three stabilization modes:
    • Basic mode: roll locked to the horizon
    • Pitch-lock mode: pitch locked to the horizon
    • “Chicken-head” mode: all three axes locked
  • Photo and video support
  • Automatic 3D parallax calibration
  • Color grading: tint, exposure, shadows, black and white levels, and more
  • Cube LUT support
  • Support for multiple mods and unusual camera configurations, including opposing sensors or sensors offset by 90°
  • Audio processing, including noise reduction and voice isolation
  • Multi-camera composition timeline:
    • One video track
    • One external audio track
    • Fade video transitions
    • Fade and crossfade audio transitions
  • Live HLS streaming to DeoVR Classic-compatible headsets Apple Vision Pro is currently excluded and will be supported later
  • Export features:
    • YouTube 8K VR180 export presets, so publishing 8K VR is no longer a lottery
    • Dual HEquirect
    • Dual Fisheye
    • Rally projection: equirectangular projection onto a 360° sphere combined with fully locked stabilization
    • H.264, HEVC, AV1, ProRes Standard, and ProRes HQ
    • Spatial: windowed MV-HEVC for Apple Vision Pro
    • Immersive: MV-HEVC VR180 for Apple Vision Pro
    • End-to-end 10-bit pipeline when supported by the source
    • Two denoising modes: one lightweight and one heavier GPU-based process
    • Sharpening
    • Automatic VR180 metadata injection
    • Automatic publishing to DeoVR, JillVR, and YouTube VR

Pricing and availability

VRadical Studio will be available for purchase starting August 24, with a one-time payment and licensing per camera:

  • €100 for the first camera
  • €50 for each additional camera

The complete user manual is already freely available and explains everything that can be done with VRadical Studio: https://studio.vradical.app/

Here is an introductory video about VRadical Studio. The voice is AI-generated because it makes itself understood in Shakespeare’s language much better than I do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJovjjI2gdw

And here is a video focusing specifically on the DJI Osmo VR180: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bR8laVqm7eQ

Over the next few days, I will publish dedicated videos for each supported camera model, as every camera has its own output characteristics, and samples to let you judge the results compared to other existing solutions.

The six remaining VRadical products have not yet been revealed. They are not Studio updates or extensions, but entirely separate software products. They will be introduced soon.

The Insta360 X6 and DJI Osmo II are starting to surface. There is no doubt that they will become part of the entire VRadical ecosystem as soon as I can get my hands on them.

The remaining question is whether they will be moddable!

And finally, a huge thank-you to Sylvain Menard, Alex Xander (@xrstereovideo on DeoVR), u/Zippytiff, and u/Slight_Web8776 for their time, ideas, testing, and all the material they provided to help make this possible. VR180 modding is about to get much bigger over the next few weeks!
