2018 BMW X3 - Coolant Leak Repair Estimates. Reasonable?
3 repair jobs for almost $4k in total for 2018 X3 with 92k miles. Is the price reasonable? And are these all required repairs?

Hello. I need to have someone look at my 2018 BMW X3 with low coolant warning and dried/crusty whit buildup in coolant hose connections. Could someone recommend a good mechanic in the Triad area? I prefer working with small shops.
Hello. My 2018 X3 with 93k miles gave a low coolant warning and the coolant reservoir tank was low on coolant and I found some areas in the left side of engine showing white residue in a couple of hose connectors. Based on what’s shown in the photos, what parts need to be replaced? Other sections in the engine bay looked clean but I will double check.
I’ve got a 13 year old Goodman heat pump AC unit upstairs that’s blowing warm air. Tech came out to check and there’s no Freon left and found oil in the evaporator coil area (evidence of leak). He didn’t actually test for leaks but was pretty confident it’s leaking at the evaporation coil. In Sep of 2025, he replaced a leaky evaporation coil for downstair unit and it’s been working fine. At that time, he did fill a couple lbs of Freon in the upstairs unit because it was a little low in but it’s leaked all out in less than 1 year.
Repair option would be me sourcing a replacement evaporator coil for $850 and he’ll install and fill 410a Freon for $1,200 - total repair cost of little over $2k.
Another option he offered is to replace the indoor air handler and outdoor condenser with a budget AirTemp 2.5 ton unit for $5,600 installed with 10 year part and 2 year labor warranty.
Another HVAC tech (friend’s referral) offered a new 2.5 ton RunTru (Trane’s subsidiary brand) for close to $6k with the same warranty. He also suggested he might be able to find a new compatible air handler for upstairs and replace it for a little over $2,300-$2500 total.
I’ve read RunTru should be overall better quality than AirTemp for new system. But, I’m wondering if replacing the evaporator coil or air handler would be a good option as well.
What would you do if you were me?
