Back-to-School Chaos

First day of school is today and I closed last night (a Monday). Naturally, we were scheduled about the same number of employees as a regular weeknight, but we had probably TRIPLE the amount of traffic we usually do, so surprise, surprise it was an absolute SHIT SHOW. I got out 30 minutes past when I normally do because I was checking people out and mind you I work on the sales floor and am NOT a cashier.

Ridiculous - genuinely who in their right mind thought we could do with the skeleton crew we normally have on a Monday night - THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WTF??

thank GOD my immediate supervisors and management are nice and reasonable or I would have left such a long time ago

Thoughts on the new bag check crackdown? /rant

First time bag checked using the new system today and it's absurd. I stood for 5 minutes at the front waiting for a supervisor to check my bag today before I got to leave (can NOT imagine what that experience would be like if you had careless/worse supervisors btw). In front of the door, with many customers trying to come in AND out. I plan to grab my stuff and head up to the front an extra 5 min next time to account for that. I also asked about shopping after work since you can only clock out at the door when you get your bag checked and apparently you just stay clocked in until you leave the store? So do with that what you will I guess. I know I'm definitely doing my shopping right after work from now on. Definitely ironic to me how they're cutting hours but paying you to wait for already busy overworked supervisors to do something that the SCAs can do or well COULD do just as easily.

Show to Books Transition

I am currently rewatching the show with my friend (it's her first time watching it) and she seems interested in reading the books. I would highly recommend her start with book 1 but she doesn't read much and likes fast-paced thrillers, so I'm afraid she will start reading book 1 and quickly get bored as the plot is the same as the show. As a result, I'm afraid she'll just stop reading the books altogether, which is such a shame because they are so much fun to read!

Long story short, after we finish the show I think she should just start where the show left off with book 3.

Is there any other crucial information from books 1 or 2 I need to tell her about for a smoother transition from the show to the books? I already plan to tell her about Lucy's upbringing (she has a much better relationship with her family & her family is large) & that in the books George is blonde.

Dream Franchise for Lockwood & Co Crossover

What would your hypothetical dream franchise crossover be with Lockwood & Co (no matter how impossible it would be) if there could be/would have been one?

Personally I would love to see miraculous ladybug because I think it would work so well but also be so chaotic. I think the characters would be so much fun together plus the confusion over if to break an object or throw a net over it would be hilarious. I think the end result of the crossover would also be really interesting too as Lockwood & Co's tone is quite grim & ladybug is so optimist overall.

Inventory

What day is your store doing inventory if you know? I know our store has been prepping so it's definitely happening soon, I just wanted to know when to expect it. Is Sunday too soon? I asked off for that day awhile ago & I really hope I miss it (fingers crossed).

Closing on Sales Floor/Rant

The past two days for the closing shift we have only had 2 people on the sales floor (usually we would have 3 for weekday nights and 4 for weekends) and I was wondering if other stores have moved down to 2 as well? Since it has happened 2 times now, I am assuming it is not due to someone calling out last minute although that could be the case. From things I've heard on this reddit, I am guessing it is a corporate decision/not enough hours being granted because just how ridiculous it is. For context, the store I work at is 30,000 square feet, so it is BIG.

Anyway last night, there was 2 people on floor (me being one of those 2 people), with the other person being roped into helping one of my supervisors on a task in clothing (not sure what it was). Now 2 people alone on floor is bad enough on a regular day, but of course corporate is coming tomorrow so everything had to look perfect for them. Not only did did I have to take care of the perimeter, but I also had to take back most of the clothing go-backs too and my manager wanted me to work on 4 endcaps of which I only finished 2 because of how long everything else took. At the end I didn't even have time to pick up the (again) trashed floor including the clothing areas because we were out of time and my coworker & I "needed" to pick up the queue to make it look nice. I wasn't able to leave until an hour after my shift ended. (remember we have 30,000 square footage in our store)

I am so grateful to be blessed with good management & coworkers (my manager was helping with endcaps) but corporate is absolutely losing it oh my gosh - I've had annoyances & bad times with Burlington in the past but this one really takes the cake

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

EDIT - needed that rant but realizing now just how insanely lucky I am at my store - ty for all for the insights!

I honestly thought it was normal for at least a couple people to be on the sales floor especially with a similar store size as the one I work at - i was clearly wrong 😭
