Finally out!

Finally got a signed offer letter for a better position esewhere. My SM asked why no notice. I said to her face "yall would not be giving me a notice if you were terminating me."

Out of every company I have previously worked for, this one was the shittiest by far!

Advice… I’m losing my mind

I work at Burlington in Shoes & Accessories. My AM says I need to work faster on accessories because she has a timer and my time is low or something like that. But I genuinely work as fast as I can, and my feet hurt pretty quickly and the pain slows me down. On normal days, I can finish Accessories around noon. But on really busy days, there’s so much merchandise sometimes I can’t even move in my space. Today it took 3–4 people to finish everything, and the AM herself has said that knows Accessories needs two people but I should be faster. With Shoes, I once worked through a huge shipment alone and only had about 15 boxes left before I had to leave bcz of my feet. The person who normally works Shoes has the same issue with huge shipments. Finishing around the same time I do. So, What confuses me is that everyone else, including the supervisor, tells me I’m doing a good job, while my manager says I need to be faster. And they keep scheduling me more 4-5 a week 8-10 hours. So am I actually doing a bad job is having low time a bad thing? I tried getting better sneakers but nothing seems to work also is there a quicker way to process?N/A things are obviously easy but for those that need tagging? Is there an order that makes its easier? I usually do boxers socks watches purses then belts last.

Hi 5

There is a lot that annoys me about the company. But one of the things that bug me is that Hi-5 rule. Let me explain.
I think it’s a good idea to say hi to a customer, what I don’t like is the fact then whenever we have corporate visits. They don’t say hi to the customers as they walk by (which we are supposed to if we are 5 feet within a customer) and one step further than that they don’t even say hi to the employees! So you want us to follow the rules but you won’t acknowledge our existence or hard work? You’ll complain about everything wrong but can’t give us ANY positive feedback? They won’t ask for our names, interact with us at all. It’s clear they’ve never cared about us, which is most corporations. But you’re gonna dog us because we didn’t say hi to the majority of customers who are rude or don’t want to be bothered? Ok pal.

Back-to-School Chaos

First day of school is today and I closed last night (a Monday). Naturally, we were scheduled about the same number of employees as a regular weeknight, but we had probably TRIPLE the amount of traffic we usually do, so surprise, surprise it was an absolute SHIT SHOW. I got out 30 minutes past when I normally do because I was checking people out and mind you I work on the sales floor and am NOT a cashier.

Ridiculous - genuinely who in their right mind thought we could do with the skeleton crew we normally have on a Monday night - THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WTF??

thank GOD my immediate supervisors and management are nice and reasonable or I would have left such a long time ago

Customer experience lead

Are there any customer experience leads here? I just got the position and when I read my responsibilities, it basically says “do everything”. I’m supposed to be able to tell the district managers or whoever a one sentence summary of my position but I don’t think I can say “I do everything the store manager does for less money.” 😭
I was just told that I had to do truck as well which I’m confused about, and I was scolded for not knowing the ins and outs of the armored truck person taking the money. I’ve literally never seen that guy before so how was I to know! Was I supposed to be trained, because I was a lead before but this is a lot!

Interviews

Y'all I'm stressed. I have like a mix of 50 different emotions right now and none of them are positive. The burlington near me was the only one to call me back for an interview, though do they always do it immediately after you apply? That kinda scared me but I was thankful enough.

I do have a few questions, mostly because I really can't fail this interview and because this is my very first job interview and I don't want to make a fool out of myself.

I applied to be a cashier, and Im just generally curious on how the interview process would be?

Not only, but it said that it would be a group interview, how would that work?

What would possibly make me more likely to be hired? I have really bad anxiety and the only reason why I'm going to the interview is because I need the money and for some reason planet fitness rejected my application 🫠.

Also, guys, the dress code said buisness casual? Like what's a good in-between of casual and buisness that won't make me look silly, unless they won't care too much about it and I can just show up in a tee and some jeans? I dont really have any professional clothes...

I know Im overthinking all of this, but its better to be prepared, plus its either this or I hope chuck E cheese accepts my application ;-;.

Please any help would be great, the interview is tmr and I feel like ima explode from anxiety already.

I QUIT!

I walked into another mess... was only there for 34 minutes... called over the walkie to speak to my SM and ASM. Had my personal stuff in my hands and had my Badge and Store Keys ready.. I looked at my SM and said I quit, I'm done. She was like what! You can't quit, you have to find a closing manager. I said No I don't and handed her my stuff and then walked out.

I feel so much better and a huge weight has been lifted off!

I Hate the Red Hearts

My store gets very serious about these red hearts and they drive me nuts.

These computers don't take into account how large an order is and how long a customer pays. On top of that, a lot of tourists come to my store, so there's always a language barrier when having to do the sing and dance.

This, surveys, and they credit cards in an area where most people shopping are from abroad has just been exhausting.

I have an okay score by their standards (like around 50 to 60%), but I'm burnt out...

Interview No Contact

I had a group interview Friday 15th. First, I was not expecting the interview to be with a group, second, the interview was supposed to 15 minutes but turned out to be over and hour. There were two other people interviewing both of whom could not speak English. Everytime it was their turn to answer they would have to type their response in their phone, which took a while, way too long! Anyway toward the end the manager went over all of what to expect in the orientation and said if we were hired they'd call us that Friday afternoon otherwise we'd get an email. I've got neither. I think the whole thing was totally unprofessional and I regret wasting my time, a lot if it at that, for no response.

To the Burlington executives that lurk on this page…

For the love of god, please hire more cashiers. There’s been times where I wait longer than I shop and it’s very frustrating to say the least. Or add self-checkout or make your checkout process faster. You don’t need to be asking so many questions! You have no idea how many times I put things back and leave because the line is too long and you have two cashiers fighting for their lives. I’m in El Paso, where it’s not only American shoppers but also Mexican ones from lower regions.

*this has nothing to do with employees. You all work hard and as fast as you can.

Does your store do this?

The kids shoes are getting ridiculously too overwhelmed. No room but double rowing on the floor and inner wall. I just don’t know where else they supposed to go and since we’re not allowed to bring them back to the BOH

Rant/my experience so far

I currently work for burlington as a cashier and I have had ups and downs. The downs are the worst and honestly have made me want to quit my job.

I helped open a store and that itself was hell on earth. We were too busy to meet deadlines so I was only trained on register once for 5 minutes, only verbally too. I wasn’t given a chance to actually stand at the register and do training mode.

Fast forward to opening day, and I was put on register with 2 other people and was belittled and mocked by one of my supervisors for not understanding how to do certain things. Mind you, she also didn’t know how to do register either. She proceeded to stand next to me and help me bag, she was in personal space for over and hour and it made everything so much harder. She becomes a problem later, which I will mention later in this post.

Currently, I have been an employee for about 2 months. I am better on register and I get along with my coworkers. I love talking to people, and I don’t have a lot of complaints about the customers.

I have a coworker and a supervisor that makes my job really hard to stay with.

The same supervisor I mentioned above sometimes gets scheduled at the same time as me, and she has been nothing but completely nasty to me. I only have worked 3-4 of the same shifts with her, and most of the time get to not see her. 2 weeks ago, the first incident that really bothered me was straight bullying from her. I overheard her talking to someone after I had gotten a haircut and she straight up used my name and called my haircut ugly. I didnt have the courage to say anything to her because I am terrified of it being used against me, so I brushed it off and continued my shift.

Yesterday, I had a shift with her again, and we were pretty busy. Let me preface the story of this incident by saying I am pretty fast at the register. I can usually get most of my hearts on my register if I am efficient enough. A lot of people had come in for back to school shopping, and there were only 2 cashiers on the register. My MOD told my supervisor to get on register to help the line die down. Into the mic, she responded “Maybe if (my name) wasn’t so slow, this wouldn’t be an issue”. My MOD didn’t respond to her, and neither did I. I also want to clarify that I have never talked back to a supervisor or a coworker at work. I consider myself to be an incredibly kind individual. I never let myself have an attitude.

My other problem comes with a coworker that I am often scheduled with. He is known for having an attitude with customers as well as supervisors. He is incredibly lazy when it comes to doing his job, as well. He constantly leaves his hanger rack messed up, he refuses to do go backs when prompted by other cashiers when taking turns, and the worst part is he will get on his phone in the middle of helping customers and completely just walk away from his register. He has also called people when helping customers on register. It is completely unfair to me, especially because most of the time it is me and him on register. I tried politely asking him to help a customer that was waiting in line while he was on his phone today and he went batshit crazy on me and told me to fix my attitude. I have never had an attitude with him, and will continue to not have one.

Both of these people have left me so angry and distraught. It is unfair and really hard to continue doing my job when I have two people who are completely rude and incapable of doing their jobs efficiently with kindness and respect for the people around them. I have considered complaining to my higher ups, but I am scared of consequences/and or starting drama.

Do you guys have any thoughts on how to handle the above situations? Am I complaining too much? Is this something to expect as someone working their first job? Do I tell my higher ups? What is your advice. This is my first time doing retail and working a job, so I might just have a completely different outlook, and this probably is the reality of working in retail. Still, if you guys have any advice that would be great. I appreciate it.

Can I get in trouble for taking longer than a 30 minute lunch?

I leave my store when I take lunch and sometimes it ends up being 3-7 mins over 30 I was wondering if I can genuinely get in trouble for that or if the warnings on the app are just to scare

Burlington Dress Code/Shoplifting Policy Is Dogshit

Here's what gets on my nerves. I first worked at Burlington on June 2024 about a month or two after graduating community college due to struggling academically since COVID.

At first, the dress code is lax and wasn't too bad as an SCA but months down the line, for some reason: the policy changes into all black (black pants, black collar shirt, no graphics), like bruh: I wear black because I want to, not because I am told to.

I hate it and dislike being told what to do and I'm tired of the nonsense as an SCA, especially when you can't really do much other than report to the MOD on if a person is stealing.

And when it does happen, I just don't care after two years working there (right now is August 2026) and in late 2025, was falsely accused of profiling and assault by a customer who she claims I was harassing when all I did was do my job via shortage highway.

And I was extremely angry and humiliated in front of people I'm working with and it pissed me off so much that it was the straw that broke the camel's back to where I decide to prepare to apply for another job and go work somewhere else while making money off of Burlington as long as possible until when I get hired and situated elsewhere, it is time for me to go and work elsewhere.

I can't stand false accusers and what did I get? Manager telling me off when I never intended that to happen, now I'm feeling "I'm taking off, fuck this shit" and I hope to leave and start work somewhere else before the holidays kick in, it's ridiculous.

Like, you can't even do shit whenever someone is stealing besides giving a description of what they wore and what they look like and the items they are taking.

Don't work there, it's dogshit to begin with. I plan to work elsewhere (ex: Target, Five Below, etc) where the dress code is more predictable and less ridiculous as well as the shoplifting policies as well as giving leeway to do my own thing.

I ain't going through being falsely accused a second time and I plan to quit for my own sanity and safety.

And the meter thing doesn't stop people from stealing, cos people will still steal anyway.
