Some examples I can think of are Children of Men, I Who Have Never Known Men, The Memory Police, Tender is the Flesh, Prophet Song, just off the top of my head. But I think what all these have in common are the dystopian element without it necessarily feeling like sci-fi, like say Blade Runner.
Extra points if the book is on the shorter side!
I'm quite new to screenwriting, so I'm not great at analysing yet, but I'm so intrigued by how Black Mirror constantly manages to portray a future dystopia and its world, with all its new rules and regulations, without info dumbing and writing out all the subtext. How do they do it? What exactly is it about Black Mirror and its writing where they manage to do it so consistently?
I have to film a phone that first gets a message notification and then shuts off due to low battery. I feel dumb but I can think of an easy way of doing this (except actually run the battery down, sending a message and then hope the phone dies). Any thoughts?
