I just got a disc and I am so impressed so far

I used a cup for years and loved it, but then got the copper coil in January and had to stop (apparently you can kind of suck out the coil with the cup when you remove it so it’s advised not to use it). Now it’s been a few months, I decided to try a disc.

I got the Hello Disc because it’s affordable and I like the idea of the ring pull and different options with that. Also the reviews are really good.

I tried it for the first time last night: day two of my period (my heaviest day) but it’s lighter at night and I’ll be lying down so I figured it’s a good time to try it out. It took a couple of attempts to get it in, but that’s mainly because I was overthinking it. I went for the tuck method with the ring pull as I didn’t want anything hanging into my vag.

The next morning, there was nothing in my pants, and I mean nothing. I wouldn’t have known I was on my period. The cup’s good, but it’s not that good. I’d often have some very light spotting.

It autodumped when I took my morning dump, then I took it out completely (it was in a little too securely but I got it out ok), rinsed it and popped it back in with no fuss whatsoever.

Emboldened by my success, I decided to try it out today as well. Day three is still pretty heavy and I work in an office, so if there was a critical fail, I’d have to go home and change, which would not be fun to explain to my boss, but I decided to trust it.

It has not let me down. My underwear is completely clean. There is not even a speck of blood.

We’ll see how things go when I take it out this evening without the autodump dump, but so far I am very impressed.

If you’re thinking about trying one, do it. It’s not as hard or scary as it looks, and it is so worth it.

I love my fleur cup and had been using it for years, but I got the copper coil in January and was advised not to use a cup with it because of the suction. Since then I’ve been using period pants, but I’d much rather use something internal and reusable, if I can.

I’ve heard you can use discs with iuds, but my doctor has never heard of them so couldn’t advise me, and from what I understand they sit very high up, basically just under where the iud is (is that right?) so I don’t understand how you don’t accidentally pull it out when you remove the disc. Also, wouldn’t the threads hang into the disc itself? Mine go a good inch into the vagina from what I can feel. I’m worried about catching the threads when I grab the disc to remove it, does that not happen?

If not, can anyone recommend a brand that’s available in England? My cervix is medium height and flow is now very heavy and crampy (thanks copper coil!).

I’m intrigued by the hello disc but am worried about yanking it out with the ringpull thing and taking the iud with it!
