The 3-story commercial building between Strip Club and Soloway/Bandit is for sale. Is it over $1m per story? Yes. Is this the perfect space for a rapidly growing medium-sized company? Yes.

Come on, neighbors! Let’s make a list of Chicago-led companies that would make the most of this space and could actually afford the investment in the building. Am I delulu? You know it. We can dream, though.

I’ll start:

  1. Every remaining local venue in the city pools funds with every remaining local record store; they team up with local creative agencies. And this becomes the permanent “pop up” location for touring artists. 1st floor merch/retail. 2nd floor intimate ticketed Q/A. 3rd floor ultra VIP (people who want to pay $10,000 to ask charli xcx 1 question get to do this) …. When touring artists are NOT in town, this becomes a venue for open mics, pop up collabs between local artists and creatives, etc.

  2. New corporate HQ for Chicago Bears. Because we know those white collar workers/execs don’t want to commute to Hammond.

Plan b when the PD hates you

My spouse is a pgy3 at an AMC (not unionized) and he feels dejected about fellowship. The hospital is amazing and other residency programs here seem fine. But his specialty is verging on malignant. People are transferring/switching specialties. The PD is frequently putting would-be whistle blowers on PIPs. ACGME is useless. There is no formal standardized jeopardy system. Staffing is inadequate at baseline, and with a couple people out on leave the chiefs keep putting anyone who isn’t their friend on coverage. No one’s elective time is safe. The coordinator is a cruel person. And at the end of the day patient safety is frequently in question.

My spouse wanted so badly to do fellowship. But without a LOR from PD, what are his options?

TIA for advice. As an enraged spouse my advice is “burn it all down, try to form a union.” But I also just want him to survive and graduate. I’m terrified they’re trying to fire him behind closed doors.
