Where to buy mandolin in store near Vancouver?

I know online music shops are gaining popularity. But I also read from many that it’s best to buy strings instruments in store to make sure proper set up. Does anyone have previous experiences buying mandolins in Vancouver Canada?

Can others recommend books or channels of Irish tune or jazz/ blues recorder performances?

Most recorder performances are on Baroque or Renaissance music. Have others come across recorder music in above genres?

Advice on bends

I’ve been practicing getting bends with YouTube video lessons. So far the only one I could get is the 1st hole on a diatonic C key. Do different brands of harps make it less or more difficult to bend? Are there techniques you find particularly helpful? I saw someone mentioning relaxing jaw for the first hole and immediately I got results but the other ones I’ve not been successful so far.

Day 10 progress

Day 10 progress with tin whistle

I’d really appreciate advices to reduce the squeaky sounds playing in faster tempo. Is it due to over or under blowing? Also, do alternative fingerings exist in tin whistle as in recorder? There are some note transitions, for instance, from b to c, always a bit awkward.

Triple tonguing practices

I have been following a couple of YouTube recorder channels and practicing triple tonguing exercises. I’m ok to do triple tonguing on same notes but I’m unable to keep up with different notes. I feel the fingers and tongue don’t coordinate. Do others have advices on useful progressive exercises that I can try?

Harmonica looks easy but actually requires a lot of practices.

I’m a complete beginner and started playing song the first day I picked up my harmonica this week. Then I realized there were some many techniques I’m actually missing including clean single notes and proper breath control. It’s such a fascinating instrument that requires a lot of practices from fundamentals. I appreciate others’ sharing of your learning journeys. How did you take to consistently produce clean singles notes on a dichromatic harmonica then other techniques?

Struggling with high notes above G

I’m currently day 4 into tin whistle and have tried my first jig “The Kesh Jig.” I’m really struggling with notes above second octave G. I could barely produce the F and could not get to B. Unfortunately second part has a couple of these high notes so I’m unable to complete it. I really appreciate any tips on producing better high notes and advices on my articulations and cuts. Thanks very much.

New player here, wanting some advice on how to get warmer tone and avoid sound breaking.

I’m a few days into tin whistle. I’m playing on a Sondery in D key. I would really appreciate advice on better air control to avoid sound breaking and articulation for a warmer, less harsh tone.

Sondery tin whistle

I bought a cheap Sondery in D key tin whistle just to try it out. I saw reviews that the brand is pretty decent. I’m starting to enjoy playing tin whistle but the sound is pretty squeaky and breaking easily if not breathing very carefully. I find rolling notes nearly impossible on this tin whistle. The only ornamentations I could do with a crisp sound are taps and rolls.

Could this be simply my breathing techniques? Have others had experiences with this model?

What would be a tin whistle you’d recommend? I’m happy to invest a lot more for a better instrument now that I’m practicing consistently.

Short clip of czardas

I just picked up melodica a week ago and started playing tunes I remember from my piano days. I’m using a cheap Eastar 37 key melodica. What can I do to make the expression more dynamic and rich?

42 key kalimba, is it worth it?

I’ve got a 21 key kalimba and have practiced songs so far but I felt apart from C major, the accidentals cannot be played properly. Is it worthwhile getting the 42 key kalimba?

What do others play on their melodicas?

I’ve recently bought a melodica and am really enjoying it. I’ve been playing music I knew from piano days. I’m kinda wanting to expand my repertoires so would like to hear from others.
What’s the biggest number of melodica keys available? When I played a few songs, there were some higher notes that went beyond the keys.

Choosing a lyre for beginner.

I read a lot of reviews about different lyre models. As a beginner, what’s a recommended model that will ensure good playing experiences without having to re-tune strings frequently.

What music do you play on kalimba? Which type(s) of kalimba do you own?

I just got a 21 key kalimba and am loving it so far. I feel most of the music played tend to be mystical, ethereal. I’m wondering about how diverse is the music played by others and your kalimba.

Common chords if I want to play bluegrass songs.

I just got my first ukulele. I’m really excited about it. I watched a few essential chords videos. I am wondering from more experienced players, if I want to play traditional bluegrass music, which chords are going to be very useful to really nail them down.
