[SOLVED/UPDATE] I feel like it shouldn’t exist. What is it?

[SOLVED! See Edit]
Acquired through a gear trade in a lot of guitar parts. It’s got the cutout on the bottom like vola, and the back, and the body is really well made. everything else is just weird, man. I’m at a complete loss. Headstock has a thick layer of black paint and (what looks like a cricket decal) says ‘Excalibur’.

Edit: This blew up overnight haha! 30k+ views, no correct answers. For shame. /s
The guy who did the trade with me actually saw this and messaged me! He knew more than I thought he did. I wanna say he actually messaged the original owner, but i’m not sure. As it turns out, the body is a chopped Godin. The craftsmanship on the bottom button is unironically really well done. I would’ve missed it everytime. The neck comes from a Viger Excalibur, which is kinda upsetting seeing as they’re 2k+ guitars and the original owner sanded it down and poured paint on it. Just another cool quirk of the thing! haha.
REGARDLESS! It’s a really neat luthier special.
I’m surprised by the electronics, honestly. Pickup seems cheap, but the switch and the pots are full size. Pick guard is primo.
I will be bringing this dude back to life in due time! I’ve got 22awg coming in the mail soon. I ran out shortly before receiving the axe haha. If you have any tips, concerns, or ideas, please feel free to reach out! I’ll make a follow up post once it’s playable!
A HUGE thanks to everyone who took a crack at ID’ing, and an ever bigger thanks to those who made me chuckle. JGD

Emulating a double bass with a 4/4 cello

Heya! Hopefully this is allowed here. Firstly, I’ve never touched an orchestral instrument, so I’m extremely unknowledgeable. I record a lot of bluegrass / Folk music and the one thing i’ve been missing is that damn thump. Today at goodwill, i picked up an Eastman 4/4 cello for $25. I took it to my local luthier and he says it’s in great shape. I’ve seen people play them on youtube and make the sound pretty close to an upright, but none that i’ve seen have really gone into detail as to how they accomplish it. I know d’addario makes strings that allow EADG, but not EADG1. Do you have any tips or ideas as to how I can really hone in that sound? One thing that i keep tossing around in my mind are the thick, rubber strings you find on a bass ukelele. Again, I’ve no clue what you can and can’t accomplish with classical instruments haha. Thanks for reading :)
