First ever positive test after IUI… what should I know?

BIG DAY for me and my spouse, as I got my first ever positive pregnancy test after our first IUI! We’ve been trying for 2.5 years, and the journey has involved many doctor’s appointments, self-advocacy, surgery, and meds. But here we are! Could not stop crying when I saw the test, I was convinced I was out because all my symptoms were my usual PMS symptoms and I’m on progesterone supplements, which give you ALL the symptoms.

Anyone else out there with PCOS and Endometriosis (stage 1) have advice for the first trimester? I know it’s incredibly early (13DPIUI), and there’s a chance it might not stick, but I’m choosing to be hopeful. I’ll take all the advice and stories you have!

First IUI SUCCESS!!!

I tested positive this morning on 13DPIUI. Two strong positives on two different tests! My first ever IUI was June 21st, and we’ve been trying for almost 2.5 years now. I was certain this cycle was a bust because of all PMS symptoms I was feeling, but now I can chalk those up to the progesterone suppositories! I am in SHOCK! Please take this as proof that sometimes the first IUI does work!!! AHHHHH!!!

TWW Venting

For the first half of the TWW, I’ve been so eager to get it over with and find out whether this worked. Now I’m 11DPIUI, and I’m terrified for the TWW to be over. I know this is my first IUI, but after 8 medicated cycles, and 2.5 years of trying altogether, another negative test (with a $1000 price tag) is going to really sting.

How do you keep going? How do you head into a new IUI cycle immediately after the heartbreak of the previous one? I know I’m not there yet, but I’m anticipating so many heavy feelings.

Progesterone supplements + pregnancy symptoms

For my IUI pals out there who were put on progesterone supplements following their IUI, were you able to distinguish between the progesterone symptoms and actual pregnancy symptoms? I’m guessing I should be blaming my nausea and extreme fatigue on the suppositories (I take them in the AM and PM), and not the chance I might be pregnant (9DPIUI). This is my first IUI, and first time taking progesterone, and the overthinking is craaaazy.

Progesterone supplement symptoms

I CANNOT SLEEP. And this is coming from someone who can fall asleep anywhere, at anytime, for far more than 8 hours. Typically I’m out the moment my head hits the pillow, and I don’t wake up until my alarm goes off. But since starting progesterone supplements after my IUI (I’m 6DPIUI), I cannot stay asleep. Tossing and turning, sleeping in short bursts, then waking up to toss and turn again.

Wondering if anyone had had similar experiences while on progesterone (mine are suppositories I take every morning and night).

Oversharing is the only way I can survive this…

I know a lot of people treat infertility and fertility treatments with an air of secrecy, but man oh man, I could not get through this without telling the people in my life what’s going on! I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I won’t be able to have a classic “surprise I’m pregnant” moment, but it’s so worth my sanity. I have a groupchat with my mom and some other mother figures in my life, my sister, my best friend, and I just update them throughout the process. Also, my dad knows, many of my friends do, and so do my in-laws. First ever IUI was yesterday, and texting them updates was really nice.

I know it’s hard, and not all families are well-suited for this, but not having to answer “soooo when are you and *spouse* going to have a baby?” has made life so much easier. Also, the amount of support I’ve been offered warms my heart, and I truly feel like I’m educating a lot of people on a process that is usually so behind-the-scenes. In my eyes, the more people know, the more empathy they can have for future situations.

Anyone else going the full-honesty route with family and friends?

Clinic provided OPK is positive… ones I use at home are not. HELP!

I got a positive ovulation test on the Clear Blue tests my clinic provided me for this cycle. Solid smiley face, when the day before it was an empty flashing circle. This is 2-3 days early for me, compared to the Easy@Home tests I use.

Also took an Easy@Home and it showed a 0.5, so definitely not positive according to that test.

Of course I followed clinic directions and called in the positive, and they’ll likely book me in for my first IUI tomorrow, but I’m doubting myself now because the tests were so different. AND my spouse and I had sex today because I figured that would give us 2-3 days ahead of the IUI.

I honestly don’t know what I need right now. Advice? Shared experiences? Anything would help at this point.

What did you do the days before and after your IUI?

Whether you got pregnant, or it wasn’t your time yet, what did you do the days leading up to your IUI, and the days after, that helped your body and mind? First IUI will be coming up next week most likely (no trigger shot, just OPKs) and I want to make the most of the opportunity. I have a massage booked for what should be a day or two before the IUI, and I’m trying to get an acupuncture appointment but was only put on a cancellation list.

Did you take off work after? Stay in bed? Go for a walk? Or maybe you made no changes at all! I wanna hear all the perspectives.

Does your insurance cover IUI?

Asking this out of pure curiosity! I live in Canada, where healthcare is mostly free, EXCEPT where I live, fertility treatments somehow don’t fall under that category. I have a great job with extensive health insurance, and it covers basically everything (even acupuncture) BUT NOT fertility treatments.

Does your insurance cover fertility treatments? Also, if you’re comfortable, I’d love to know what country you live in, and what type of job you do!

IUI protocol… and ringworm

I swear I’m cursed. After almost 2 years of TTC, we’re finally approved to begin IUI next cycle (likely in 2ish weeks). Some background: I have lean PCOS and stage 1 endometriosis that was excised last August.

So OF COURSE, as things are looking up, I somehow contract ringworm. I’ve never had it before, but it’s stubborn and I’m so worried they’ll cancel my IUI until it’s gone. I got medicated cream for it, but my family doc recommended I don’t take oral meds for it in case it messes with the Letrozole. I haven’t reached out to the fertility clinic yet. Should I? Anyone have experience with this?

Beginning IUI with Stage 1 Endo and PCOS

Here are the basics:
- formally diagnosed with stage 1 endometriosis after excision surgery last summer (with a highly trained endo specialist, mostly for pain relief)
- lean PCOS (weight is not an issue)
- mild uterine septum removed
- both tubes are open (yippee)
- ovulate on 2.5 Letrozole, but bumped it up to 5
- have tried 8 medicated cycles with no pregnancy
- tried naturally for a year and half prior to medicated cycles

All this being said, my REI says my partner and I (no issues with sperm) are good candidates for IUI. We’ll be starting next cycle.

I guess I’m wondering if there are any other people out there with both Endo and PCOS that had a successful IUI?
