Watermelon Rind

Made myself one this weekend - green paper micarta, maple valley Richlite, and ivory G10 over stainless hardware and a Nitro V blade. I didn’t think it would look like a watermelon rind when I made the scales, but as I worked up the grits that’s all I could think about!

2-1/4” blade, 3-1/4” closed

Bale ‘n’ Ale Sampler

I always felt like the cotton sampler pattern left a lot of real estate on the table for the modern user (aka anyone not actively grading cotton 🤣). I think the tie to history is super cool though so I wanted to make an interpretation that honored that with some added functionality.

Thing is a beast at 4-5/8” closed, 8-1/8” open! 52100 carbon steel with a satin finish, nickel silver bolsters with brass hardware, stabilized spalted flame maple scales, an ebony wood shield, and a matching lanyard bead to tie it all together. I haven’t quite seen anything like it so I’d love to know your thoughts and thanks for looking!

Kephart Batch

Finished these doozies up this weekend in Nitro-V. Had a lot of fun with the handle material combos! 3.25” blade length, 7” OAL.

Thanks for looking! Let me know what you think

Copper ‘Stock

Had fun making this lil gunstock prototype in O1, copper, and stabilized figured bubinga wood. The tiniest crack materialized by the show side pin after peening, I swear every step is a chance for things to go sideways. She’s pretty nice nonetheless!

2-1/8” blade length, 5-5/8” OAL. On washers. Opted for no shield to let the beauty of the wood shine 😎

Natural Micarta Wednesday

DLT Case exclusive has blade wobble, poor centering, and a gap by the spring big enough to drive through but I’ll be dammed if I don’t love it anyway

Knife blank question - steel type

A coworker found this knife blank among some things in a garage after moving in to a new house. The tang is marked 40 A2 SS - asking for the wisdom of the group, do you think it is A2 tool steel or more likely, A240 (304SS analog)? Thanks!

Fresh off the bench in O1 Tool Steel and 2-ply natural/black canvas micarta. I like this one, but then again, I like them all! Pull is on the lighter side, but smooth on washers.
