Hi! I’m an exchange student coming to FAU Nuremberg for one semester (~6 months), but the Studierendenwerk offered me a single apartment with a fixed 12-month contract (Sept 2026 – Aug 2027), and the paperwork says I’d owe rent for the whole period even if I leave early. I’ve already emailed the WohnService asking whether the contract can be limited to one semester, or what the early-termination options are — but while I wait, I’d love to hear from people who’ve actually been through this:

1. Did anyone get a one-semester contract as an exchange student?
2. If not, was there a fixed penalty for leaving early, or did you really pay all remaining months?
3. Is finding a Nachmieter a realistic option, or does the Studierendenwerk re-let the room itself?

Any experiences would help a lot — thanks!

UPDATE: They got back to me within 12 hours, said it was no problem at all, and sent me a new 6-month contract for the same room they’d originally offered. Really great service, highly recommend just asking!

I just opened my blocked account with Expatrio. I already have the total amount converted to Euros sitting in my Wise account, ready to go.

However, Expatrio recently updated their rules and now exclusively handles transfers through Flywire.

Since I live in Brazil, I don't have a traditional European bank account, just my Wise account. How exactly can I send my EUR from Wise to Flywire without messing up the transfer or getting hit with double conversion fees?

When setting up the payment on the Flywire portal, which "origin country" and payment method should I select so that I can just do a standard SEPA transfer from my Wise EUR balance?

Has anyone in a similar situation done this recently? Any step-by-step help would be super appreciated! Thanks!
