Some of you need to remember that watches are basically just expensive adult toys
Every time someone posts an actual hot take here, people respond like their family honor has been attacked.
Folks, it’s just a tiny mechanical trinket that tells time worse than your phone.
I love watches. I spend an unreasonable amount of money on them myself. I can happily waste an entire evening discussing movements, finishing, proportions, dials, references.
But at the end of the day, we’re grown adults collecting shiny little objects because they make our monkey brains happy.
Your Patek does not make you sophisticated. Your G-Shock does not make you authentic. Your Rolex does not make you successful. Your Grand Seiko does not make you an intellectual. Your vintage watch does not mean you “understand horology.” And owning a Hublot does not constitute a personality disorder.
They’re toys. Jewelry. Trinkets. Extremely fun, occasionally beautiful, hilariously overpriced trinkets.
Someone saying your favorite watch is ugly should have roughly the same emotional impact as someone saying your favorite Pokémon sucks.
If a stranger saying “Royal Oaks are overrated” causes you genuine emotional distress, the problem may not be the Royal Oak.
Anyway, please explain below why my opinion is objectively incorrect. I expect no less than 300 words responses.
