How to get thinner lines?

How to get longer thinner lines like in the reference?

The reeds in the tutorial, they seem to just effortlessly create a long thin line from like the top of the canvas all the way down and i dont understand how. I run out of paint about a quarter of that distance and with more paint I get a thicker line. What am I doing wrong?

Filling in the texture of the canvas is another challenge, I feel i never have enough paint and when I add more it squishes off the sides of the brush.

Do I need to thin my paint or something? I like the paint viscosity and all that but cant get it to go far on the canvas.

How to get better?

This is my first painting in comparison to the reference/video I was following.

I was not aware of undertones when getting my acrylics and believe that is why my colors are so dull. I could be wrong about this, but I was disappointed that my primary colors mixed together so poorly.

Otherwise I am not really sure how one improves? I want better brush strokes and am not sure how what I am doing that is different than the tutorial.

How do I know what colors mix well? How do I know the undertones and know how to prevent muddy colors?

I intend on revisiting the painting tomorrow to add some dark red details for the flowers and fix that funky green leaf.

Colors used:

Color: 470 Cerulean Blue Hue

Color: 432 Titanium White

Color: 151 Cadmium Red

Color: 380 Ultramarine Blue Item

Color: 159 Cadmium Light Yellow

Not usually my thing...

Background behind my deck(s?):

picked up a Black Marigold Tarot "set" (guide, book w/ artwork, deck of cards, decorative cards) as I thought this was a beautiful version of the tarot and wanted to try learning about it as my daughter was expressing interest into the supernatural. When I got the "set" I also got an additional deck separately, I wasn't charged for it and didn't order it so I took it as a sort of good luck thing but was kind of creeped out by the idea of this "mystery deck".

What actually is bringing me here:

I downloaded an app about tarot with a quiz to see what I remember as it has now been a few years since I last touched any tarot cards (was surprised at how well I was doing!). It asked if I wanted to see a "card of the day" for me and I thought why not? Maybe I'll remember something. I pulled the death card, remembered something about "how cycles end" and how its not a "bad" card, been thinking of my mom's passing a lot lately (she past a few years ago) and have a lot of change going on in my life so I thought the death card was strangely befitting.

I thought, why use some random app when I have my decks downstairsin the basement? I grab my deck and take upstairs to put with my work keys so I can take to my desk tomorrow and quiz myself. I am not usually into this other than as an interest and this history behind it, I'm a 33 y/o dad who initially got this to share interest with my daughter mind you, but figured... wouldn't it be wild if I also pulled the death card from my deck?

I open the box to see that the deck inside is upside down (faces of cards pointing up) with the death card on top facing me..

This deck has always given me the heeby jeebies since I got it the way I did but this made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I appreciate the dark and mysterious but dont consider myself to be a supernatural person however that def felt weird to me.

Felt weird enough to post on reddit and hear what the community has to say. Anyone have any thoughts about this?
