I’ve seen a few forum posts where people have fitted SJ suspension onto an SH and seem pretty happy with it. Most mention only small issues like tweaking the ABS sensor wire clip or brake hose bracket.
But most of the discussion seems to be around OEM SJ struts/springs.
What I’m specifically curious about is:
Has anyone fitted SJ Bilstein B6s onto an SH?
From what I can tell:
* SH B6 fronts (22-278432 / 22-278449) are twin tube
* SJ B6 fronts (22-278494 / 22-278500) are monotube
Which got me wondering if the calmer/more composed SJ ride character carries across into the Bilstein versions too.
What I’m chasing:
* close to stock ride height (few mm lower is fine)
* kill the floaty/boaty SH feel
* planted and compliant
* confident on rough roads
* no pogoing after bumps
* no weird diagonal roll or unsettled transitions
Not chasing:
* stance
* harshness
* twitchy turn-in
* track setup
Current setup is:
* Tein Street Advance coilovers
* Whiteline sway bars
The Teins came on the car when I bought it. I’ve spent today playing with damping settings and while I can improve certain behaviours, it never quite feels “right” or OEM cohesive. It always feels like I’m chasing preload/damping compromise rather than the suspension naturally working together.
I still have the original self-levelling setup in storage, but it had 145k km on it so I assume the previous owner went coilovers because the factory suspension was getting tired.
Interested to hear:
* anyone actually running SJ B6s on an SH
* spring choices
* whether you used SJ or SH top hats/springs
* long-term impressions
* ride height outcome
* whether it genuinely improved composure vs SH-specific B6 or OEM SH suspension.
