2014 Subaru Legacy 2.5
101,243 miles someone's selling one for 8500 and ive never owned a subaru, I really really need a car but I heard the cvt transmission is pretty crashed out. As some one who knows nothing, please share what you can so I can look for it in the test drive.

dumb suspension question for 08 outback legacy rear upper arm.
Is there any reason I shouldn't flip this bolt around and start the nut on the other side? its my first time doing suspension work for this car and the new bushing on the new arm is stiff enough that I just cant hammer the bolt through the other end even with the jack on the knuckle underneath. But if I can start the bolt on the other side, I can pry on the arm to lift the other side enough to tap it through... any reason I shouldn't do that?

2012 Subaru Legacy USB Charging Issue
Hey, so the USB port in the center console on my Legacy has never worked since I got the car. When I plug in my phone, nothing happens. No recognition at all. Am I doing something wrong? Is the port not meant for charging? Thanks in advance if anyone has any knowledge about this!

Best bang for my buck car I've ever bought
Its really disappointing to me they chose to kill the sedan models. This was the first Subaru car I ever bought and I have never made a better purchase. I love my charger but bang for my buck, hands down this legacy is leaps and bounds ahead of that. Sharp looking cars (as long as you tint the windows otherwise its a fish bowl) effecient, luxurious enough amd cost effective. 0-60 ain't too good but 60-100 ain't bad at all. Bottom line is I wish they would have expanded on the sedans I think they make a great product but I cant stomach the wagon myself.

Drunk guy hit me last night
I was in the left turning lane at a stop sign, I let the first person go , then as I was taking my turn another vehicle pulled out and smashed my front end , he ended up trying to blame me so I called the cops , he was arrested .

2022 Legacy CVT died at 93,500 miles in traffic. Subaru denied goodwill because my maintenance wasn't done at a dealer.
Posting this so other 2021 to 2022 owners know what to expect.
**What happened**
2022 Legacy Sport, 2.5L, TR580 CVT. At about 93,500 miles the car suddenly lost drive power in traffic at around 22 mph with someone right behind me. Warning lights came on, I got off the road, and limped it home. The next day it wouldn't go into Drive or Reverse. Codes P0700 and P0730. The dealer confirmed an internal CVT failure and quoted $9,307 for a replacement.
**Maintenance**
I do my own oil changes. The CVT fluid was serviced at an independent shop at 79,148 miles, and the fluid looked good at the time. It was changed anyway as preventive maintenance. Subaru's own normal schedule lists CVT fluid as inspect-only.
**How Subaru handled it**
I opened a Customer Advocacy case asking for goodwill. It sat for over a week with no callback until I called in. My case manager, Antonio, denied it, saying the car was 33k miles past powertrain warranty, had no extended warranty, and there was "no service history recorded with a Subaru retailer." When I explained that the maintenance was done, just not at a dealer, Antonio compared my situation to a kid who wants candy and then gets sick. He told me he was the district-level contact and it wasn't going any further. His written decision said there is "not an avenue for an additional review or escalation process." No partial offer, nothing toward the tow.
**Why this stings**
In June 2025, Subaru extended CVT coverage on 2019 to 2020 models, including the Legacy with this same TR580, to 10 years or 100,000 miles. My car failed at 93,500 miles. The 2021 to 2022 models aren't covered by any extension, so I'm on my own.
**What I'm doing**
- Filed an NHTSA complaint for sudden loss of power while driving
- Selling the car as-is instead of putting $9k into it
- Not buying another Subaru
**If you own a 2021 to 2022 with this CVT**
- Keep every receipt, especially for DIY maintenance (oil, filters, dates, mileage). Subaru only looked at dealer records.
- If yours fails, file with NHTSA. Complaints are what lead to extensions.
- If you pay for a CVT repair out of pocket, keep the repair order. The 2019 to 2020 extension reimbursed owners who had already paid.
Has anyone else had a 2021 to 2022 CVT fail? Did anyone get goodwill approved?

I got this car but I have like no manuals for it. I just want the owners and the repair manual. I know most likely they’re in Japanese but I’m willing to do the work to translate them. I just wanna be able to fix and do maintenance on my car.

Does anyone know how or what the outer parts of the foglights do on a 1998 liberty/legacy?
I have recently bought this heritage bumper and it has the foglights however only one of the four work. I assume one is blown but the outer two are dummys. Is there something to do with it or anything and what have you guys done with yours?

Corrosion on 2017 legacy
I have a 2017 legacy 3.6R and I was replacing a sway bar link today when I noticed a rust hole on the subframe. Mind you ive had the car for 7 months and have done 10k and havent owned it in winter yet so ik the hole has been there my entire ownership, im not super uncomfortable driving it still, just wondering how much time I have. I heard there has been a recent lawsuit filing about the subframes on these cars, apparently its common. The car only has 29,741 miles and ive checked carfax, it isnt clocked. However the car did come from NJ. What yall think? A couple more years or immediately?

Control arms for Legacy
Hi
I've been thinking about installing adjustable transverse control arms in my bad boy (2004 3.0R, but will ve swapped with Spec.B suspension, Cusco stabilizers, Bilstein shocks and STI springs). I wanted to replace all three arms. Unfortunetly, Whiteline and Hardrace are a bit too expensive for me (I've got all parts pretty cheaply), so I'm looking for other options (as long as it is possible to replace bushings with polyurethane dedicated for stock suspension it can be with uniball bushings).
Also if anyone has experience with swaping steering rack for shorter ratio, I'd really appreciate help.
