Our vet’s office is so kind!

Mila passed away two weeks ago. We received this today. They got prints of her nose and feet. I’m beside myself. It was so kind!

The dude is doing so well!

For context, 7 month old lab who initially had some resource guarding. We found a trainer ASAP. Since then we completed a beginner obedience course and are halfway through our intermediate course. He’s doing really well!

He has basic commands down. He now manages to refrain from jumping when people come, although you can see how badly he wants to. We finally are doing much better with loose leash walking and coming to a heel whenever I stop walking. He knows “place”, can stay in a “stay” for about a minute. He doesn’t react to other dogs or people whenever we go for walks.

We do drills throughout the day. We run through the basics, sit, stay, down, come touch, heel, wait, leave it. We do lots of puzzles and enrichment. We do a monthly group dog walk with our class. My kids do the drills with him.

He’s still 7 months old though and sometimes I really sense the teenager in him lol. Sometimes commands go in one ear and out the other but overall he’s doing fantastic. We’re starting to incorporate wheel chairs at our class in preparation for him becoming a therapy dog down the line. He’s a lot of work and we’re putting a ton of work into him but I can definitely see the beautiful result of it all.

Hang in there guys! Keep working with your pups, it’s worth it!!

An excellent lady

Mila is sixteen or seventeen years old. She was found wandering the streets of Tucson, AZ and I was pregnant with my first child fourteen years ago. The vet said she was probably 2 or 3 years old. She traveled cross-country with us to PA and has since lived with my ex-MIL, my grandma, my sister and then with me and the kiddos again. My seven year old is particularly attached to her and adores her. He says she’s his favorite and she views him as her favorite person to snuggle.

She’s been showing signs of approaching the end and tomorrow she crosses the rainbow bridge. My son is particularly devastated and it was a hard talk to have with him. She was a truly excellent little lady who lived quite the adventurous life for such a little dog and we’re going to miss her a ton. My son said the house won’t be the same without her and he’s not wrong. And while I understand that she’s in pain and it’s for the best, I’m dreading tomorrow morning too. For now we’re showering her in snuggles, giving her her favorite foods and telling her that we love her.

Thank you so much, Mila for fourteen years of love. ♥️

Update: She passed this morning. I’m devastated. She was a really awesome little dog and I miss her a lot already.

Found a system that works for me!

I kept going back and forth between using my bujo as a journal to doing complicated layouts and tracking and I kept falling off and it began to stress me out more than before something useful and enjoyable. So I just used the bujo as a very standard, minimalist bujo. I have my very basic year at a glance, then the month, and just take it day by day. I have a separate journal used for journaling. The minimalist bujo has taken a lot of the pressure I used to put on myself off. If I miss a day, I just pick right back up.

Possible gum abscess?

Hi guys! Just to preface, I have an appt with my dentist tomorrow afternoon. I noticed what looks like an abscess on my upper gums. I didn’t even realize it was there until I was eating and it felt a little funny. No pain. No fever or anything. Maybe a slight ear ache? But I also have terrible allergies which means my sinuses are a wreck this time of year. I know I’ll probably need antibiotics, but will a root canal be necessary? They just placed a crown on the one tooth last year and I’ve been diligent about oral hygiene which makes this all the more frustrating.

Just a reminder if you’re in the trenches

As I’m sure a million others have posted, it does get better! Hang in there!

I’d posted a few months ago about our puppy being great but having intense resource guarding issues. I was told to seek a professional immediately and did so. Our puppy is now 7 months old. Life has gotten MUCH better! Resource guarding has improved immensely. We just completed our beginner obedience course and are starting the intermediate course this week. The dude is very smart and seems to really enjoy the classes. We also join a monthly dog walking group of people from the class and he gets along great with the other dogs. He’s also great with people and we’re going to pursue the therapy certification course when he’s older so he can visit hospitals and nursing homes.

He’s fully potty trained. He FINALLY lost those razor sharp baby teeth. He knows and follows basic commands and is crate trained. It’s nice to be able to sleep through the night again. Leash pulling is still an issue, but one that we’re working on with our trainer. If you’re struggling with sleepless nights, shredded hands and mental and physical exhaustion, I swear there’s a light at the end of that tunnel! It feels like graduating from the newborn stage to something survivable and even enjoyable lol
