Little fish for my second piece, need knife sharpening advice

I have a beaver craft knife that I got in a set with a hook knife and gouge. I also bought a leather strop and compound as I read before buying that I would need this. I have been using the strop but I think my knife isn't as sharp as it could be, definitely isn't shaving hairs off my arm.

I think that I'm just not stropping right and I don't live near somewhere to ask for in person advice to really understand how to do it. Is there a beginner friendly way for me to get my knife sharper?

Also I'm low-key super pumped with this little fish, it probably took my close to two hours which is another reason I think my knife isn't sharp enough haha

Sorry if this isn’t exactly the right place.

I’m looking to buy some whittling tools to get more into the hobby but I’m not sure where to start. I was gifted a pocket whittling knife years ago and spent a good deal of time messing around with little projects but eventually I guess I just forgot about it. I have a lot of spare time on my hands now and want to pick it back up. If anyone has some recommendations for the right tools to buy I would be greatly appreciative.

Looking for something that I can use for the mean time and then upgrade/buy more tools later if I continue long term. I don’t want to get the cheapest thing on the market, something that could realistically stay in the collection of tools if I buy more later. I’m keen on making some spoons as well as other projects.
