Pre hyperlexia?

My 5 year old autistic gestalt language processor has been showing signs of hyperlexia since he had a regression at age 2. Before his regression he seemed to be developing language typically. But aftrr his second birthday he started scripting from media and developed an intense interest in numbers, letters, colors, shapes, puzzles etc. Its been 3 years we feel he is pre hyperlexia but he does not actually read. I have seen him trying to spell simple words , which makes me realize he is trying to read phonetically. He is not reading sight words

Anyone else in this situation? Anyone has advice? How should we encourage reading?

Birthday cake

We will be in PCB on my 5 year old's birthday and will need a small birthday cake. It doesn't have to be fancy, but he would like some sort of theme. We don't want a fully custom cake as we are open to a variety of kid friendly themes. Last year we were in Destin and a beach themed cake from Win Dixie did the job.

Anything like that around PCB? We will be in the center, closer to West side.

Allocation advice

I am in my early 40s and allocate all my contributions to L2050. However, I feel like I can be a little more aggressive? Thoughts? How would you do it? I'm thinking 70% in L2055 and 30% in C fund.

Hi I'm the parent of a 5 year old autistic child. My child is a gestalt language processor. For those not familiar with the theory, he takes in language as whole chunks. He scripts what he says and what has an emotional meaning for him, and slowly breaks down those chunks to understand the meaning of individual words. We have seen him doing this and believe this is how he learns.

We have tried traditional speech therapy and so far it has totally backfired. For example, one of our therapists withheld bubbles and asked him to say more bubbles. He said it in the moment, but instead of understanding what he said he associated it as a phrase you use when an adult has something you need. So he would say more bubbles out of context all the time.

He is a happy kid who loves songs and communicates in his own way. For example he says "wheels on the bus" when he wants to go out in the car.

We want to do ABA for adaptive living skills. Someone who can teach him to break down tasks into small steps. But we don't necessarily want ABA techniques for language.

My question is - do you all come across such profiles on a regular basis? How do you deal with it? What do you do if a parent says they don't want to work on requesting?

Thank you so much!

Hi looking for similar stories, hopefully even success stories?

My son had more or less typical development until 18 months of age. He was delayed in things- walking, saying his first words etc. But he seemed NT. Expected joint attention, eye contact, etc. He used to play back and forth social games and imitate us. He had appropriate play- could stack blocks, do puzzles, kick a ball.

Language was developing but inconsistently. He said words but only what he wanted. They were not necessarily used functionally. He sometimes followed instructions, but even receptive language had a significant delay.

Then he had a major regression around age 2. Lost eye contact, appropriate play, stopped all social games. Non stop stimming. He started scripting songs and is a gestalt language processor.

Now he is almost 5. Functional play has returned although it is done when he wants. There is increased interest in environment. Receptive language has improved. But he still scripts and sings songs. No pretend play. Sometimes he says phrases in context, but usually its just singing.

He has an excellent memory and is likely pre hyperlexia. Loves numbers, letters, puzzles, music. Great at puzzles.

But language just doesn't stay. Last year he tried functiinal language and pretend play for 1 week and then went back to singing songs
