A wild Mavica appears!

Sighted a Mavica on an episode of Unwrapped!

I'd apologize for the poor picture quality, but that's on brand for a Mavica anyway. 😂

Potatoes chip episode from the second season if anyone is interested.

Apple IIc: Is there any way to prevent killing the IWM chip?

I have an Apple IIc with a dead IWM chip. I'm thinking about finding a parts board to replace it. My question: Is there anyway to prevent this from happening again? From what I've read, a simple static discharge from the external ports can kill it.

It seems crazy to me that this system is so fragile even straight from the factory. Is there anyway of protecting the chip? Some way of grounding the ports?

Apple IIc, ROM4X and Floppy Emu issues.

I just got my first Apple II in the form of a IIc. Long story short. I upgraded the ROM to a ROM4x. Broke and bridge the appropriate traces. I ran the system diagnostic and came back as "system okay".

While I was waiting for the ROM4X to arrive, I had the Floppy Emu plugged into the internal floppy port so I could try out some software. The software was working for the most part. Played a little Oregon Trail.

Today I fully reassembled the system. I boot ProDOS from the floppy emu. Works fine. I pop in a 5.25 disk into the real internal drive with the intention of learning to format and copy a disk. I was wanting to copy ProDOS as a test.

I choose CopyIIPlus from ProDOS menu and i start the copy process. It says it's write protected. Silly me. I forgot to cut a notch on the other side of the disk.

I power off the system, eject the disk and cut the appropriate notch in the other side of the disk.

I boot back into ProDOS from the FloppyEmu and find that none the of menu items do anything. Not even the readme.

Thinking I may have screwed up the disk image of ProDOS somehow, I go back to my PC and replace the image with a fresh one. Still no joy.

I go back out to Basic and test the keys to see if they work. Enter seemingly isn't working now.

I try to load a disk from the floppy emu and use the ROM4X menu to boot from the external "drive". When it starts loading, the internal drive starts making a horrible grinding noise. (not the normal homing clicks). I turn it off immediately.

I admit I'm very new to this system, but I don't know what went wrong.

New Apple IIc owner - Questions and concerns

I've recently got my first Apple II in the form of an Apple IIc. I was delighted to find out it has the Alps keyboard. I don't have any software to test on it yet as my floppy emu is giving me grief over my off brand SD card. (waiting for a new one)

It seemingly boots fine and lands on the normal check disk drive screen.

I've dropped into Basic but it seems it's stuck in Dvorak mode and I can't seem to switch it back to Qwerty. It also seems like some of the keys may not be working. I don't know if that last bit has to do with Dvorak as this is my first experience with it.

I've run the diagnostic mode. but this appears to be one of those early ROMs where it just runs endlessly and doesn't tell me anything. I don't know if there's a way to exit the diagnostic.

I've looked through a few different sources, the original manual and online and I'm seeing conflicting info on they keyboard switch. Some indicate it's a momentary switch and other say it's a toggle like the caps lock.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
