Brookhaven was a bust with this weather
So I went indoors. Little bored so I played with my placement. I guess he got a chin dimple as I was off on my final shot for the frown.

Been using the patches I have on hand from my father. They were my grandfathers from his days in the army during WWII (he was injured at Monte Casino in Italy).
I still have an entire ammo can full after this box.
I took off Monday, thinking about going out to shoot at Brookhaven.
Anyone regularly shoot there? Crowded on Mondays?
So the guy at South Shore suggested that when you buy 1,000 round buy a mag if you can. Sort of factor it in.
Walther website has been sold out. As was South Shore. So I ordered 2 from Magshack for about $15 less per mag than either the website or South Shore.
I also pre paid for one from South Shore that should arrive this week.
I will now have a total of 5 so range days will be a little easier.
Question do you mark and number your mags? If so how? Paint pen or adhesive numbers?
Found this one before I loaded it.
Most people go a long time. This is two from the same batch.
Otherwise the Fiocchi range dynamics shot fine.
Yesterday I woke up a little late and didn’t get to the Nassau County Rifle and Pistol Range until 10 am. NO points available until 12. So I am going today.
Just a little frustrating. I know there are other ranges. But the convenience of being able to get there in 10 minutes keeps me going Allows me to hit the range quickly and with little to no planning.
Where are you all buying targets?
For the small NRA ones I print and copy on letter sized paper.
I got a pack of 50 q targets on Amazon.
Just got the idpa/uspsa combos on there as well.
Also how are you carrying them back and forth to the range?
So I got my first misfire this past Saturday.
On my first box of Finocci 115 range dynamics.
Luckily I was trained in what to do during my CCW class.
Anyway here is something I thought it would take more time to see.
Thinking of heading over for an hour anyone else doing a little Father’s Day range time?
Went to the range this morning.
Instead of my usual NRA pistol target I picked up some Q targets. Figured I’d practice shooting the NJ qualifier. 10 rounds from as far it will go at Nassau county (20?) 15, 10, 7, 5
Been looking for a holster for my first gun (Walther PDP Compact 4”). Someone suggested clinger for strong side carry.
It came today. Tried it for a few minutes seemed to be as comfortable as it could be for someone who has only tried one other pancake style holster.
I’m going to play around with it a bit and see how I like it.
I am currently applying for my NYC permit
Has anyone done New Jersey and Connecticut?
I regularly travel to both states, or drive through them regularly enough.
I understand NJ requires a range test. How is the timeline for NJ and CT?
UPDATE: I did some research from all of your suggestions and I decided on the clinger hinge. I appreciate the feedback. I’ll let you know if I like it once I receive it. Thanks all.
Is there someplace on the island that has a variety of IWB holsters that you can actually look at and check out? Or are holsters purchases a strictly online endeavor and return what you don’t like?
For context I have a Walther PDP Compact 4”.
I would like to at some point be able to carry it IWB at the 3:30 or 4 o’clock position.
So last week I was able to purchase my first handgun in Nassau county.
The process of buying the gun was interesting. I went to a couple of shops and ended up buying from South Shore Sportsman. I think I was most comfortable with the team there and as a bonus they were the best price for what I bought out of the places I went. I will say this, if you are buying your first handgun it’s really a good idea to not just hold the guns you think you want but go somewhere and resent and shoot them. For me being able to do that really stopped me from making a mistake. I really like the smith and Wesson m&p 2.0 aesthetically and it felt good in my hand. I was able to fall right into a good grip with it in the store. Then I rented it. For me it was not good. I really disliked the trigger. My second choice was the walther PDP compact After shooting it I didn’t like the mag release. Turns out that was the large backstop and changing to the medium transformed the gun for me. I also shot the sig p365 x macro. While I liked it I ended up liking the walther better. So bought the walther and went to the range yesterday. I am very happy with my choice. I ran 250 rounds through it and I shot pretty well from 3 yards all the way out to 15. Next step for me is some training
TLDR: spend the extra time and money to go somewhere and rent before you buy your first gun. I knew I didn’t know what I didn’t know but renting really revealed what I liked and disliked.
I am going out to dark storm tomorrow to rent 2 handguns i may be interested in purchasing. If I decide I like one or the other what are some resources that can help me price check these? I plan to buy local so I am assuming online pricing will be less expensive. Is there a rule of thumb 10% more locally when you look at this site 15% if you look at this site. Also what sites should I be looking at? Manufacturers for the msrp? Or cabellas? Or some other site you all like?
So thought I’d throw this out there to everyone.
