Our secondary is cooked

In just the last two months:

  • Coby Bryant: Leg fracture, out til January
  • Cam Lewis: Carted off the field (he's back thank god, but still not 100%)
  • Kyler Gordon: Kyler Gordon
  • Elijah Hicks: Shin injury
  • Zach Frazier: Retired
  • Xavier Woods: Groin injury in preseason game
  • Terrell Smith: Left practice with a leg injury
  • Gervarrius Owens: injured and waved

With Jaylon Johnson also coming off injury, this has to be one of the most damaged position groups of all time. Really hoping the rooks can step up and perform given the stakes.

The Chicago 49ers back at it.

Questions raised after preseason game 1

Offense:

Case Keenum: Is he be a better scrambler than Jared Goff?

Tyson Bagent: Could this spell the end for being a potential trade candidate?

Kaden Davis: Could he be WR6?

Salvon Ahmed: Could he be the best RB3 in the NFL?

Roschon Johnson: What can he do to make the team?

Maurice Alexander: Is he the slowest punt returner in the NFL?

Jedrick Wills: Is giving up that sack going to offset his hype from training camp?

Defense:

Jamree Kromah: Is he better than Dayo? Should he get a shot at making the roster?

Malik Muhammad: Will he continue to play as physical, without getting any holding calls?

Beanie Bishop: If he lays off the K, could he deserve a starting spot?

The only thing I can say about today: thank God we’re not the 49ers

5 of the 6 starting caliber receivers being out is crazy.

Caleb is in elite company already

QBs over the last 20 years who were top 10 in all passing volume statistics (passing yards, passing tds, and completions), had 30 or more total touchdowns, a bottom 5 interception rate, and made the playoffs:

Peyton Manning (2006, 2013)
Tom Brady (2007, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017)
Brett Favre (2009)
Aaron Rodgers (2009, 2011, 2012, 2016, 2020)
Ben Roethlisberger (2014)
Patrick Mahomes (2020)
Dak Prescott (2023)
Matthew Stafford (2025)
Caleb Williams (2025)

It’s crazy how he’s already got the volume and the efficiency. Can’t wait to see what he does next year.

Is DRAM worth $100??

I'm deciding between a Crucial P310 2TB and a Samsung 990 PRO 2TB for upgrading my PC. I currently have a 2TB SATA and the boot-up and load times can be pretty slow. The two SSDs seem to be pretty similar (PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2, 7000+ Mb/s), except Samsung 990 PRO has DRAM. Right now, the P310 is $291 and the the 990 is $389. Is DRAM going to be able to make my computer feel like a Mac on bootup, or is the effect negligible? What do y'all think? Thanks :)

Realistic d-line prediction

Montez Sweat will be a top 15 edge-rusher and Austin Booker will be top 20. Dayo is motivated.

However, the IDL will still be quite bad. Grady has not aged well. He showed a little bit towards the end of last year, but you cannot rely on him to contribute to the pass rush. Gervon actually got a lot of pressures and 6 sacks, but despite being over 330 pounds, he cannot stop the run. His footwork is bad and he does not get tackles or force double teams. As of right now, this unit will hinder the contribution of Book and Sweat. I really hope Allen lets JVB see playing time on the inside because he might end up being an upgrade to the IDL by midway through the year (it's hard to get worse). Neville Gallimore... exists. We haven't really seen anything out of Turner, I hope we see him play and he ends up not being a wasted pick.

What do y'all think? How much will Booker (who's more than a YEAR younger than Logan Jones btw) contribute as EDGE2?

Dreamt we traded for Mad Maxx

Last night I dreamt we traded Luther Burden, Sam Rousch, and Zavion Thomas for Maxx Crosby. I thought it was real and I was PISSED! The only player I’d give up that haul for is Will Anderson. Obviously Ben would probably never do this, but would you trade those three for Will Anderson??

Opinion: Say goodbye to the entire d-line next year

Poles has shown an inclination to completely revamp the trenches when they underperform. In 2024, our O-line was straight trash so Poles let both guards go, then traded for Thuney and Jonah, then drafted our potential franchise LT in Trapilo which made our unit Top-3. I expect us to do something similar this upcoming offseason, cutting Dayo and Grady, letting Dexter walk, and probably even trading Sweat. Booker is the only starter I expect to make it out. What do y'all think?

Clear Double Standard

You always hear "If you spend too much time on your phone, it will rot your brain" or "You can't go on your phone and watch porn during a work meeting, that's disgusting, you're fired" but as soon as a man generously eats his girlfriends phone to help with her online addiction, he gets arrested and criticized by the media. We truly do live in a society.

Being a Bears fan is a Shakespearean tragedy.

The first NFL memory I have was going to the 49ers vs. Bears game in 2009 where the defense held the niners to only 10 points, but we still lost because Jay Cutler had FIVE interceptions and 0 TDs. I was 5 years old and I was so upset when Cutler threw his third interception that I wouldn't stop crying, so my parents had to pick me up and leave the game early. Needless to say, my parents didn't take me to any more games that year.

In the 2010 season, we signed Julius Peppers and Brian Urlacher returned. My dad told me this was going to be our year and it honestly seemed like it. Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman both had amazing years, Forte was a phenomenal dual-threat, and Cutler had 10 fewer interceptions than the previous year. Not only that, but we actually BEAT Green Bay and won the North. It really felt like this really COULD be the year. When we advanced to the NFC championship at home, I thought we would overcome the Packers and win it all. But not only did we lose, but Cutler tore his MCL, never played a full season again, and the Packers went on to win the fucking Super Bowl.

The next few years were marked by Cutler injuries and disappointment. In 2011, we went 7-3 before Cutler broke his thumb going for a tackle. 2012 especially looked really promising. We had both Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jefferey, and Devin Hester, with the uncs Peppers, Briggs, Urlacher, and Tillman holding down the fort. But we missed out on the playoffs due to a tiebreaker to the fucking Vikings. The only thing that makes this less tragic is the 49ers owning Aaron Rodgers, which is ironic given the fact they tore my 5-year-old heart apart only a few years before. Then in 2013, we lose the NFC North on a 4th and 8 against the Packers because Chris Conte can't play defense. Then, in 2014 and 2015, Cutler actually put two pretty good seasons together, but we sucked so it didn't matter.

But finally, after years of mediocrity, we did it! We got the QB of the future, We drafted the Pretty Boy Assassin himself, Mitchell Trubisky. Who cares if we traded away Alvin Kamara and Fred Warner, plus missed out on Patrick Mahomes. Trubisky was him. He had a rough rookie year, but in 2018, we drafted Roquan Smith and put Khalil Mack on the line with Akiem Hicks and Leonard Floyd. Also, Trubisky put it together pretty well. Yeah, we might have choked up 20-0 against to the Packers on week 1, but we made the playoffs! This was going to be our year! In the wild card, Allen Robinson had an insane game, with like 160 yards, a touchdown, and a reception to put us on the 25 for an easy field goal, down 1 point. Cody Parkey, who had been consistent all regular season had an opportunity to win it on essentially an extra point kick. Then it happens. Double doink. Season over. Plus, Parkey went on live TV to embarrass us even further.

Two more years of mediocrity, then the coaching staff finally had enough. We drafted the REAL QB of the future, Justin Fields. He's quick, smooth, he can evade pressure, and he might not how to read a defense yet, but he's fast enough to make up for it. Fields honestly seemed like he could be the man at some points. There were times it looked like he was going to get a 10 yard sack, but he miraculously turned it into a 20 yard gain. Yeah, he got sacked 100 times in two years and didnt break 3000 yards, but c'mon, he doesn't have any assets. Ryan Pace will surely get him the players he needs to thrive! Yeah we were on our 3rd HC in 4 years, but that's fine, we should stick with Fields!

Then, finally, we drafted Caleb. Freaking. Williams. The Iceman. Caleb looked really nice. He got sacked a trillion times, which was par for the course, but our o-line did suck. Matt Eberflus also achieved the impossible, when he blew three separate double-digit leads in the fourth quarter, but thankfully he held onto a timeout for the next game. Then, he was gone and we replaced him with an absolute offensive wizard as a HC, got the best LG in the game for pennies, drafted a franchise LT, TE, and WR, and in the first year in Johnson's complicated offensive systems, we beat Matt LaFleur twice a year, won the fucking wildcard down 21-3, set the NFL record for most 2-minute comebacks, and almost beat the 2nd best team in football in the divisional. The future is here. Chicago finally has a talented coach, QB, and a great team. All that has to happen is for the franchise to NOT LEAVE CHICAGO! But nope, right after the Bears got a decent QB for the first time in... really ever, we're off to Indiana. The situational irony is honestly hard to believe, this shit really cannot be beaten. It would honestly be less sad to be a Browns fan, because at least they never had any hope.

Gary Bear down...

Do people actually think Tucker Kraft is better than Loveland or is it an elaborate troll?

Loveland had more yards as a 21-year old rookie than Kraft had ever had in a season. In fact, in his last 12 games, he had more yards than Kraft has ever had in a season. And he barely had targets until week 7. I really don’t see how anyone could possibly argue Kraft over Loveland.

Am I crazy to think Van Den Berg should start week 1?

Thank god I’m not the GM because if you told me there was a defensive tackle with a perfect 10.0 RAS with the 2nd highest pressure rate and 2nd most TFLs who was also 310 pounds and had a shuttle time faster than Julio Jones and Christian McCaffrey, I would have picked him at #25. Now, his production wasn’t very good until his last two years and that could be a man amongst boys effect (he’s already 24), but here’s a fun fact: he didn’t even play football in high school, he played rugby. I would argue the reason his production wasn’t good was because he was still learning to play the game of football. I think that when you have a player with elite athleticism and production and that much potential as a pass rushing DT, you should start him week 1. Do you guys agree?

Opinion: Austin Booker could become a top 10 EDGE in the NFL next year

Booker is only 23 years old which makes him younger than ~30% of the edge rushers drafted this year. He has improved each year he's been in the league and in his last 6 games he had 4.5 sacks and improvements to run defense. With the 10+ pounds of lean mass he's already added in the offseason and another year with Dennis Allen, I think he could make the step to be a top 10 edge rusher and even outproduce Sweat by the end of the year.

I had never even heard of this dude before. But he had a 10.0 RAS and pressure rate of 9.9% which is ranked FIFTH among DTs nationally in 2025. That’s kinda crazy. Solid pick up, Poles 🫡
