Philosophy Friday warmup discussion ideas

Hello and happy 26-27 school year!

TLDR: I would like help coming up with some philosophical questions for my students to debate as a science class warmup.

I teach high school Chemistry (south central PA), and like many teachers I have daily "do now" warmup exercises for my students to do at the start of class. In college I minored in Philosophy, and sporadically throughout the year I've done "Philosophy Fridays" where we discuss some philosophical debate instead of the content. There's always some science connection, but not necessarily Chemistry.

Many students have told me how much they loved Philosophy Friday, and former students come back telling me that's something they remember. So I want to make it a more regular, weekly thing. However, I need more ideas. I avoid politics and religion, obviously.

Here are some examples that students have enjoyed:

- Trolley problems of all sorts

- How would a cat's language be different from a human's?

- What is the difference between an AI boyfriend/girlfriend and a long distance partner you've never met?

- Can vegans eat "lab grown" meat? Would you eat it?

Thanks for the ideas!

Advice on turning a briefcase into a functional prop and TCG case.

Hello! I'm working on putting together a Pokemon Red/Blue era Silph Co. (secretly Team Rocket) Scientist cosplay. I bought this black Samsonite briefcase to go with the look, and I'd like to modify the inside to function as a TCG case.

What would be the best way to fix the inside to hold things like deck boxes, playmats, and dice bags? Cut foam? Straps? The fabric is glued to the case, so sewing anything on will be tough (if possible at all). I'm open to suggestions or pictures of what you've done. Bonus pictures of my ID badge and buddy Frieda.

Bird baths are expensive, but some pavers and a plant saucer have given me endless hours of enjoyment.

This might be a common tip, but a valid one with record heat waves in the US and Europe. Birds like shallow water, low to the ground. This cost me <$30 and I've seen dozens of species of birds visiting (ranging in size from hummingbirds to Cooper's hawks), plus cats, squirrels, chipmunks, opossums, and more. This is just a shady, weedy corner of my backyard.

In the picture is a robin, which is common in central PA.

I woke up extra early to have my coffee on the water at sunrise. (south central Pennsylvania)

I didn't catch anything worth keeping, which is for the best. The one thing that I forgot after waking up at 5am was my cooler bag with ice. Left on the counter at home. But I remembered the coffee, and that's what's important.

My students and I made some tie-dye for the last day of school.

This is just a small selection of what my students made. I should have taken more pictures. The last few days of school are tough because: 1) if you do nothing, kids get bored and act out, 2) kids these days don't care about movie days, and 3) you can't do anything too rigorous because everyone is tired from finals. Tie-dye solves the boredom problem while being related to chemistry.
