My Own Phillips Player And Some Of My Favored Tapes Here in The UK

I don't have a massive collection anymore (only around 15 tapes, had over a hundred 25+ years ago) but I still like that I have a VHS shelf in 2026 and still have a good working VHS player.

'Wicked City' and 'Heavy Metal' are such fun adult animations. What are your thoughts on these films?

Found This FF Beauty At a Carboot yesterday for £1

Used to read FF a lot as a young one, but haven't read one for 35+ years (this cool book find means that will soon change) but I couldn't help but pick this up when I saw it; as you don't find many second hand copies out and about these days. Good condition copy too, only mark is one page near the start where a previous owner must have written down some of the objects they discovered along their journey in pencil.

I hope those treasures helped you complete your adventure brave warrior!!

General Chaos Uncensored Animation - Manga VHS (1999)

A VHS tape released in 1999 by Manga Entertainment, featuring a collection of different adult animated shorts (I think the Plympton one would be the most well known?). Some of the shorts are pretty out-there and very edge-lord though (which I thought was really cool back in the 90s as a youth, but look back on these days with more older cynical eyes)

Here is the VHS cover

First Time Visiting 'Whinfell Quarry Gardens' Yesterday. What an Amazing Sheffield Hidden Gem!

I've been exploring some easy to miss areas of Sheffield during this hot summer week. I've often heard that 'Whinfell Quarry Gardens' is a hidden gem in Sheffield and I can easily see why (can't believe it's taken me all these years to give it a visit) I can't think of anywhere in Sheffield that looks and feels like this? The giant redwoods makes you think you're in California and the layout of the park makes you think you're in an oriental Chinese Garden. It's a little out of the way (just past Ecclesall woods) but well worth a visit if you've got a few moments this summer!

In Praise of the X17, Peak Sightseer and 257 Bus Routes (and the adventures you've had on them)

I know these get recommended a lot in the sub (as easy ways to get to all the cool places that surround our great city) but I just wanted to create a post to celebrate how amazing they are, and hear some stories from other folk about your own journeys and places you've visited on them.

I get the X17 and Sightseer the most. I was just on the X17 yesterday, as I spent a half day in Cromford, as I had 2 hour canal boat trip booked at the wharf (which was such a relaxing way to spend a hot summers day, with the cool breeze flowing across the water). Other days it's easy to use the X17 to hang around Matlock Bath or Wirksworth. They are great places to go to without a plan, and just walk around and grab some food and drink.

The Sightseer is just an experience by itself. The views from the open-top deck are always worth it. I often ride it to Chatsworth then stay onboard as it goes to Castleton (you haven't lived if you haven't been through 'Winnats Pass' on it) Hiking around Castleton, going into some of the underground caves, them grabbing a Pub lunch? 'Chefs Kiss'.

Living near Meadowhead roundabout, both these buses stop literally outside my door, which is a bit of a bonus too!

The 257 is the one I've been on the least (but still been on a few times) again very easy to hang around places such as Bakewell and Hathersage. I suspect there are a few other stops on this route I could get off and explore around that I haven't done yet, feel free to tell me places I'm missing on this route?

So now tell me about your own experiences and adventures? Also feel free to ask me any questions if you want to explore these buses and the places they go to. Happy to pass on my knowledge.
