A little nudge, please?

I hope this type of post is allowed, I didn't scroll too far here in the community because I don't want to get accidentally spoiled.

I finally got my hands on the game and so far I'm really enjoying it except for a couple of mechanics that imo should be explained just a smidge better, but EA and all that.

Anyway I can't shake the feeling I'm missing some starter items despite being further ahead in the game?

My latest adaptation was >!the heat one. So I have pressure, digestion, and heat resistance, I think that's it. !<

I am at the story point where Hal 9000's totally not suspicious cousin wants me to >!check out Ruby's second black box (I just discovered the Alien ruins and made a smaller base there),!< which sits at a depth my tadpole doesn't reach. I have not been able to find the MK1 depth module anywhere, and admittedly I do get scared so maybe I missed something, but I keep retracing my steps and still can't find it.

I also keep seeing "10/20 bioscans required" to unlock further passive mode slots whenever I check the bio station and I'm like??? where do I get a (presumably) bioscanner? I thought it would be through the modification station but there's no scanner upgrade option.

I also tried to remove the infestation >!you can find in the Alien Ruins area, but the cankers are inside these flower-like buds that close whenever I get close, and if I do go up to them I get told "unknown equipment needed" !<so I THINK I'm a little further ahead than I should be and I missed a bunch of stuff.

Without literally giving me the precise location and info dump, can anyone give me a little nudge in the right direction, please?

[Week 13 Live Thread] The Long Game • Chapters 15 - 29 • Aug 23 - Aug 29

TL;DR:

  • Now Reading: The Long Game • Chapters 15 - 29 • Shane & Ilya’s Story (Pt. II)
  • Relationship Focus: Ilya Rozanov (Captain - Ottawa Centaurs) and Shane Hollander (Captain - Montreal Voyageurs)
  • Story Type: Secret Relationship
  • Book Club Etiquette: Follow the sub-rules, literary critiques are welcome (be respectful), cover your spoilers, and don’t forget our safe phrase: “Agree to Disagree.”
  • Add to Our Playlist! Comment with songs you love below. There is no Rachel-made playlist SO I figured we’d make our own. The list will be updated throughout the week 🙂

Whew!  I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling the tension and it’s definitely one that highlights some of the darker sides of a relationship - when doubt, insecurity, and loneliness blends together and rears its head in the worst of ways. But I’m hopeful they’ll work through it, or at least have a chat.

Let’s get to it…

(Content Warnings)

How to participate:

  • Read Chapters 15 - 29 of The Long Game by Rachel Reid
  • Share any thoughts you have as you go - we’ll treat this post as our live thread
  • Please use Book Club Etiquette (below) - be respectful, follow the sub rules, cover your spoilers, and distance yourself from unproductive disagreements.
  • Download a BINGO card for a fun way to annotate along the way!
  • Add to Our Playlist! Comment with songs you love below. There is no Rachel-made playlist SO I figured we’d make our own. The list will be updated throughout the week 🙂

Our book club timeline:

This is it, folks! This is our last book to read of our Game Changers Book Club series!

BOOK WEEKS DATES
**🦆**The Long Game (Shane & Ilya Pt. 2) Week 12 - 14 Aug 16 - Sept 5
Chapters 1 - 14 Week 12 Aug 16 - Aug 22
Chapters 15 - 29 Week 13 Aug 23 - Aug 29
Chapters 30 - 39, Epilogue Week 14 Aug 30 - Sept 5

Book Club Etiquette: A few ground rules for participating in the Game Changers Book Club event:

  • Follow the sub rules. You love HR. We love HR. Follow the rules. Don’t be rude. We’ll have so much fun…together.
  • Literary critiques are absolutely welcome. Reading is fundamental, and so are literary critiques. It’s part of the game. We encourage you to use this time to discuss and evaluate the words in front of us, ask questions about specific literary choices, or share a theory about how the story develops. Sharing that is normal, healthy, and very much encouraged.
  • Use the Book Club safe phrase, “Agree to disagree.” Consider this your “safe phrase.” Everyone brings a unique perspective to the reading experience, and not everyone’s analysis of a scene or character will be the same, and that’s okay. If you find yourself entering an exchange that is no longer on a path to mutual understanding and respect, say “agree to disagree.” At this point, the involved parties should stop responding to the thread. Full stop. Consider it a moment where the exchange has run its course.
  • Treat each Book Club post as your live chat/thread. Comment as much as you’d like! Select the three dots (•••) and “Follow Post” at the top of this post to receive comment notifications.
  • Sort comments by “New” to see the most recent reactions and add to the conversation. These live threads can hold a lot of information, so feel free to treat each “comment” as its own mini-post. Reply to the OP, ask questions, and jump in!
  • Cover any spoilers. Since we're covering a lot of ground this week, please use spoilers over critical plot points so we don't spoil the magic for new readers.

[GC Book Club] Book 5 Coming Soon! Role Model (Aug 2 - Aug 15)

Hello my lovely Loons! 🦆✨

Are you also excited to use non-AI-generated literature to escape the impeding doom and gloom of the end of critical thinking and media literacy? Me too, we have so much in common already! 🥰

This break between books 4 and 5 has been essential for me for two reasons; one, I finally got around to reading Yaga (which, by the way—highly recommended but do check your trigger warnings) and two, I am now supercharged for Role Model and cannot wait to get started 💃🏻

📑 While we wait to kick things off on August 2nd, please feel free to use this post—or any of the official Discussion Posts, which you can find here—to share any thoughts you’ve been mulling over during the book club’s small break… like, for example, what type of Oreo flavor do you think Ryan Price would be?

Personally I'm leaning towards something cinnnamon-bun related, but I’m open to suggestions, so please do let me know what you think.

Now, enough yapping—let’s get ready for next book!

🍎 Role Model (Troy and Harris)
🗓️ STARTING AUGUST 2ND (August 2nd - August 15th)
📚 If you still need to purchase or rent the book, details are in the Book Club wiki.

[GC Book Club] Book 3 Recap: Tough Guy (Jun 26 - Jul 11)

Hello lovely summer loons! 🦆

Anyone else feel like driving over to Toronto so they can wrap Ryan and Fabian up in a chenille blankie, and give them some actually decent sex toys to review together?

Maybe we can carpool. I hate flying.

Once we’ve done that, let’s pack up our violins, battered copies of Anne of Green Gables, some snacks for the road, and move aaaaaaall the way back to New York so we can spend some time walkin’ here with Kyle and Eric.

You know the drill—let's take a look at what happened this past week!

🏆 This week we didn’t have a BINGO! winner, but we'd still love for whoever feels like it to share their cards, so we can take a peek at your Tough Guy feelings. I bet they were few and far in between. Tough Guy is definitely not an emotional book, like, at all.

📜 A small reminder to spread the love and let us know what your favorite fic is! Fic prompts are also accepted, because we need more good works for this wonderful ship.

Now saddle up, cowboys, and let’s move on to the next book!

🥊 Common Goal (Kyle and Eric)
🗓️ STARTING TOMORROW (July 12th - July 25th)
▶️ You can find a week-by-week schedule here!

[GC Book Club] Book 2 Recap: Heated Rivalry (Jun 6 - Jun 26)

Hiya Loons! 🦆

How’s the cottage treating you in this heat? Still reeling from the emotional whiplash of two men who couldn’t say each other’s first name for six years without immediately crashing out in spectacular fashion?

Same tbh.

Before we drive our boring, sensible, good-in-the-snow cars to Toronto (and possibly run over Dallas Kent in the process), let's take a moment to recap the situation…

🏆 Our BINGO! winner for this block is once again u/Crafty-Syllabub-2736 , but just like last time we'd love for whoever feels like it to also share their cards, so we can get to read about your standout moments from Heated Rivalry.

📜 Since this fandom has some of the best fics I’ve read in years (in my professional opinion of chronically online muppet), why don’t you spread the love and let us know what your favorite fic is? After all, one can never have too many open tabs.

Now, enough of me talking—let’s get ready for next book!

🥊 Tough Guy (Ryan and Fabian)

🗓️ STARTING TOMORROW (June 27th - July 11th)

Slow Dancing in the Dark [Shane is outed in 2016] [Hollanov] [Explicit] Author: comeswithaprice

Rating: Explicit

Summary:

There were things about Shane Hollander that existed only in the dark, and those things were most of him.

or; a moment of vulnerability at a team gathering turns into a viral scandal overnight when a video of Shane coming out is leaked to the press.

Suddenly, everyone is watching. Everyone is talking. Everyone is judging.

It all goes to hell—until maybe it doesn't.

Hello fellow Loons! 🦆

We've made it to the end of Scott and Kip’s story (at least on paper), and it has been a great two weeks for love and romance–how are we feeling?

As we hop in our Zambonis and reset the ice for Book 2 (which is about Shane and Ilya; you might have heard of them), there's a couple of things we want to say:

✨ First of all, thank you for your enthusiasm in joining the book club!

Whether this was your first or fifth time reading about the love that changed the game, it's been such a pleasure to experience Skip alongside everyone.

✨ As you know, we do have a bingo winner in u/Crafty-Syllabub-2736 but we'd love for whoever feels like it to also share their cards, so we can get to read about your standout moments from Game Changer.

✨ And if you happen to have any Scott/Kip fanfiction prompts or recommendations, why not share those also, to keep the party going?

In the meantime, let's get ready for the next book 📚

🔥 Heated Rivalry (Shane & Ilya Part 1)

🗓️ STARTING TOMORROW (June 6th - June 26th)
