Smart as trees in Sault Ste. Marie

My cross-Canada cycling tour has brought me to Sault Ste. Marie, where the friendly folks seem to be smarter than trees. Alas, after managing the lonely highway 17 from Thunder Bay, it seems I’ve stepped out of the wilderness all squint eyed and confused.

Leather

Apologies, just using this echo chamber of logical human beings to rant about leather, because I have nobody to talk to about it. This also applies to furs and any other ‘fashion item’.

How do people not seem to see leather for what it really is (or how do they ignore it)? It’s the skin of a dead animal. You’re displaying to the world that you’re okay with the killing of animals, that you think you’re superior to that animal, and that you don’t feel any sense of guilt or sorrow that that animal was forced to die to eventually become your piece of clothing, merely because you ‘like the appearance of it’ (or texture or function or whatever it may be).

I wish I had the courage to call out more of the people that I’m close to in my life when I see them using these products.

Courage Canada Crossing

Hey everyone!

This summer I’m cycling across Canada from Clayoquot Sound, BC to Cape Spear, NL to try and raise awareness and support for Canadian animal sanctuaries.

I’m working on getting a Facebook page going where I’m trying to encourage people to learn more about the hundreds of animal sanctuaries across the country, some probably not far from your hometown, that are in need of support.

If you’d like to learn more, or if you’re interested in following along on my journey, here is the link to the Facebook page. A like and a share would go a long way: https://www.facebook.com/share/1Bo5qSnfwK/?mibextid=wwXIfr

I began the ride last week and I’m currently near Revelatoke, BC. (If you have any vegan food recommendationsr along the transCanada highway 1, I’d love to check them out!) And in case you were wondering, I’ve been vegan for 5+ years and the ride will be fuelled entirely by plants!

Courage Canada Crossing

Hey everyone! Sorry, long post incoming.

This summer I’m riding my bike from Clayoquot Sound to Cape Spear. (Yes, I nicknamed my bike the Silver Jet, even though it’s not silver).

The inspiration for this journey was drawn from the desire to experience more of the land that inspired the Hip’s music, and to do something that embraces Gord’s grace (too).

I’m working on getting a Facebook page going where I’m trying to raise awareness and support for the hundreds of animal sanctuaries across the country, some probably not far from your hometown, that are in need of support.

I’ll be stopping at as many Tragically Hip related landmarks as I can on my route. (I’m currently in Hope, B.C. so feel free to let me know of any that you’re aware of!) Each ‘photo of the day’ on the Facebook page includes a lyric from a hip song; feel free to comment if you know it! (They’ll probably be super obvious to all of you though!)

Hey everyone! I'm new to cycling and looking for some advice. I bought a secondhand 2019 Kona Sutra which came with 50 cm wide handlebars bars. I'm having a lot of upper back/neck pain, and I think I need smaller bars (shoulder width for me would be about 40 cm). I'm not very knowledgeable about bikes, so I don't know how to tell if a different set of bars will be compatible with the bike's bar-end shifters.

TLDR: Looking for some recommendations for ~40 cm drop handlebars that are compatible with bar-end shifters. Thanks!
